Living Well in Yalobusha County

FCS Club Is Selling Homemade Ornaments

We hope everyone has a very happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday. The Extension Office will be closed Thursday, November 24, and Friday, November 25, to celebrate the holiday with our families. We will reopen on Monday, November 28, at 8 a.m.

After all that holiday eating you did, you might want to check out our Healthy You exercise classes! Classes are free and meet every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. If you come, make sure that you wear cool, comfortable clothes, good walking shoes and bring some water to drink.

Let us help you with your Christmas Shopping! The FCS 4-H club members are selling stuffed Christmas tree ornaments they made.  The more you buy the better deal you get! One to two ornaments are $4 each, three to five ornaments are $3 each and six or more ornaments are $2 each.  Pictures of the ornaments are posted on our Facebook page at MSU-Yalobusha County Extension Service. You can also come by the Extension Office and pick out your favorite from our wide selection. These ornaments make great gifts for teachers, happies for your co-workers or just a great addition to your tree.  All proceeds go to support the Family and Consumer Science 4-H Club.

Our Sewing for Service Group will meet on Monday, November 28, at 10 a.m. until noon at the Extension Office. The group will continue their work on the Christmas bags for patients at Blair Batson’s Children’s Hospital. We have machines and supplies – we just need you to come help. If you love to sew and love to serve people by sewing then this is the group for you. Hope you can come!

Everyone is invited to join me in the Walk A Weigh Weight-loss Program, a nine- week nutrition education and physical activity program designed to promote healthy nutrition practices and increased physical activity through educational lessons and the creation of walking groups.  The program will monitor participant’s weight each week and monitor participant’s glucose and blood pressure twice during the program.  Class dates are: January 9, 17, 23 and 30th, February 6, 13, 20 and 27th and March 6th from 3:45 to 5 p.m. at Coffeeville Elementary Gym. The program is open to the public and the fee is $5.

Registration is scheduled January 5 and 6th. Please contact me at 675-2730 to set up you time to register (registration includes: weight check, glucose and blood pressure).  If you are interested in the program but this time does not work for you, please contact me to see if there is enough interest to start another class.

The Crochet MHV Club will meet at the Extension Office on Thursday, December 1st at 10 a.m.   The group is led by volunteer Karol Jarman. You will need to bring the yarn of your choice and a crochet hook. This is a great opportunity for beginners to learn how to crochet, as well as, a good time for more experienced people to get ideas for new projects, or finish existing projects.

Don’t forget a ServSafe Food Safety Certification Course will be taught in Yalobusha County at the Extension Office on Tuesday, January 24th from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. The cost to register is $140 and the last day to register is December 19th.  For more information contact me at the Extension Office at 675-2730.
