PONTOTOC – The Water Valley Blue Devils (3-7) (0-2) traveled to North Pontotoc high school on December 27 to play North Pontotoc and Lafayette. The Blue Devils faced the North Pontotoc Vikings in the first contest. The game was a defensive showdown as neither team could get much going offensively, the Blue Devils held a 20-12 lead at the half. The Blue Devils would use a big fourth quarter to pull away from the Vikings late in the game to earn a big 42-28 win. With the win the Blue Devils improved to (3-6) on the season. The win also ended the teams five-game losing streak.
Following the win, the Blue Devils faced the Lafayette Commodores in their second and final game of the day. The Blue Devils had one of their best offensive performances of the season in the first half against the Commodores, jumping out to a 44-25 lead to the half. However, the Commodores would use a huge third quarter to pull off a 61-57 comeback victory over Water Valley. The loss dropped the Blue Devils to (3-7) on the season.
The Blue Devils will be back in action on January 6, when they travel to Sardis to take on North Panola for a division contest. The Lady Devils will be back in action on January 10, when they host Montgomery County.
