Hawkins Is Speaker At Historical Society Meeting
The Yalobusha Historical Society will meet Thursday, February 16, at 2 p.m. in its headquarters, the former Coffeeville Presbyterian Church. Calvin Hawkins of Water Valley is the speaker, and his topic is black history in Water Valley from 1870 to 1970. Hawkins has been researching this topic for almost a year and plans to publish his work. Refreshments are served afterwards, and visitors are welcome.
VFW Weekend Activities Include Bingo, Saturday Night Dance
Activities at VFW Post 4100’s Post Home for the weekend will include bingo on Friday night, February 17. Doors will open at 5 p.m., sales begin at 6, and play will begin a 7 p.m.
Providing music for the regular Saturday night dance on February 18 will be Prime Country. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the music begins at 8 and concludes at midnight. Everyone is invited to attend both of these events. The Post Home is located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley.
Softball And Baseball Registration Continues At Crawford
Magnolia Youth baseball and softball registration will continue Saturday, February 18 and will continue through Saturday, February 25, between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon. Registration is for ages 3-12 and will be held at the Crawford Sports Complex.
The fee is $45 per child. Boys and girls, ages 7-12 will try out on Saturday, March 4, from 9 a.m. to noon. For questions contact Jacob Edwards at (662) 934-3393.
WV School Board Meets Monday
The Water Valley School Board Meeting will be held Monday, February 20, in the Water Valley Central Office, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
Annual Bill Lipscomb Memorial Rodeo Is February 25
The 13th annual Bill Lipscomb Memorial Rodeo is scheduled February 25 in the Batesville Civic Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; children’s activities begin at 6:30 p.m.; and the rodeo starts at 7 p.m. Admission is: adults, $13; children four to 10, $11; and children 3 and under, get in free.

The box office is open Mon.-Fri., 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The ticket window will open at 5 p.m. on the day of the rodeo and one hour into the event.
Live Concert In Oxford Will Raise Funds For Cancer Patients
Pat Cooper, an up and coming Nashville singer/songwriter, will perform a breast cancer benefit concert live at the Lyric in Oxford Saturday February 18th. Doors open at 8 p.m. and admission is $10. All proceeds will go to Emily Durham and Kahla Cobb, two young mothers battling breast cancer. Contact Lee at aldurham87@ gmail.com for more info.
Annual Star Nite Talent Show Will Be Held April 1
The 30th annual Star Nite Talent Show will be held Saturday, April 1st, in the Water Valley Civic Auditorium. The doors will open at 6 p.m. and the talent show begins at 7:45 p.m. and will conclude at 11 p.m. The program will include dance groups, RAP groups, and lip singing—be the star you always wanted to be. All acts must be free of profanity.
A cash prize of $150 will be awarded to the grand prize winner, along with trophy awards to individual winners.
Performing will be dance groups from Batesville and Charleston, along with many other groups and individuals. Get your group together, or perform as an individual.
