Reception For Gurner’s  On The Street’ Is April 7

Bozarts Gallery will host an opening reception Friday, April 7, for “On The Street,” a show of Memphis photographs from the late 1970s and early 1980s. The event will run from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the gallery located on Main Street in Water Valley. The images are from the collection of former Memphis photographer Jack Gurner, who was a photojournalist for the Memphis Press-Scimitar and graphics editor at the Memphis Business Journal. The photographs will be on display during April through June.

Annual Charity Ball Is April 22

Junior Auxiliary of Water Valley’s fifth annual Charity Event will be held Saturday, April 22, in Bozarts Art Gallery on Main Street. The cost of the event will be $30 for one or $50 for two. The ball will begin at 6 p.m. and end at 10 p.m. There will be a silent auction, food, music/entertainment, photo booth, and much more. Tickets can be purchased from any JA member or from Bozarts Art Gallery. 

“Please come and support our charity event. All proceeds will benefit the children in Water Valley. We look forward to seeing each of you there,” stated Vickie Person 

 Arts Council Seeks Artists For Bank Display

The Water Valley Arts Council is looking for artists to exhibit their work at Renasant Bank in mediums of Painting, Photography, Drawing, Collage and 2D mixed media work.  All work must be framed and ready to hang with proper wires for hanging.  There is no charge to the artist. All sales go to the artist.

Arts Council Sets Date For Monthly Meeting

The Water Valley Arts Council will host its monthly meeting Tuesday, April 11, beginning a 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Water Valley Main Street Association Office, located at 207 North Main Street. You do not have to be a member to attend the meetings. Everyone is invited to come and be a part of the WVAC. Weekend Activities At VFW Include Friday Bingo, Saturday Dance

Bingo will be played at VFW Post Home 4100 Friday night, April 7, beginning at 7. The doors will open at 5 and sales begin at 6 p.m. Providing music for the regular VFW Saturday night dance on April 8 is Prime Country. The music begins at 8 p.m. and concludes at midnight. Everyone is invited to attend either, or both, of these events. The Post Home is located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley.

Multiple Year End Activities At School Scheduled In May

The graduation ceremony for Water Valley High School graduating seniors will be held Friday, May 19, beginning at 7 p.m. at Bobby Clark Field. The alternate location will be Saturday, May 20, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Water Valley High School Gymnasium, if necessary.

Scholarship opportunities are available in the counselor’s office. The 7th-11th grades awards night will be Tuesday, May 9, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Civic Auditorium. Letters will be sent home to parents of recognized students closer to the date. The Senior Walk Through/Awards Day will be held Friday, May 12, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Water Valley High School Gymnasium. All parents of seniors are invited.

Fundraiser Underway For Coffeeville 7th Grade  Basketball Team

The public is urged to support the Coffeeville 7th grade basketball team, who gained the title of undefeated for 2016-2017 season. Please see Paris Turner or Justina Martin to purchase a ticket on a giant Easter Basket. Tickets are $2 each, 3 for $5 or 10 for $15. This fundraiser will go toward a summer trip for our undefeated 7th grade Basketball Team.  Thanks for your support! Please contact Paris or Justina if you have any questions.

JA Sponsors Annual Easter Egg Hunt On April 8

  An Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the Junior Auxiliary of Water Valley, will be held Saturday, April 8, beginning at 10 a.m. in the City Park. This is for children Pre-K to 4th Grade. (Rain location will be the First Christian Church Activity Center.)

Cossar State Park Will Have Egg Hunt On April 15

Cossar State Park’s Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday, April 15, beginning at 10 a.m. There will also be games and concessions for ages 0-12. Those attending are asked to bring their own Easter basket. The event will be held at 165 CR 170, Oakland. For more information call (662) 623-7356.

Valley City Lodge Sets Date For Next Stated Communication

Valley City Lodge No. 402 will hold its next stated communication on Thursday, April 6, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. All members are reminded to attend and support your local Lodge.

Arts Council Plans Community Action Meeting

Burke Is Speaker At Library’s Brown Bag Luncheon

Blackmur Memorial Library will have Anne Burke speaking at a brown bag luncheon Wednesday, April 19 at noon. Burke’s presentation will focus on applying backyard gardening to make you daily life better. She will focus on items such as vegetables and herbs which can be grown in containers in the yard and can be refrigerated for daily use in items like health drinks.

Magnolia Youth League Schedules Opening Ceremonies On April 11

The Magnolia Youth League will have opening ceremonies for the baseball and softball season on Tuesday, April 11th, at 5:30 pm. 

Please have your children with their coach and team ready to take the field by 5:15. There will be games immediately following the ceremonies.

Order Of Easter Star Sets Monthly Meeting Date For April 11

Water Valley Chapter No. 5, Order of Eastern Star, will have their regular meeting Tuesday, April 11, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle, beginning with a pot luck supper at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will begin a 7:30 p.m. Members are hereby reminded to please make an effort to attend and support your local chapter during this new year.

Trailsmen, Glory Road Singers, Fishers On Men Will Sing At Gospel Music Jubilee 

A Gospel Music Jubilee will be held in Gore Springs Community Center April 8, beginning at 6 p.m. Admission will be $5 Featured will be the Trailsmen, Glory Road Singers, and Fishers of Men. A concession stand will be available with cheeseburgers, hamburgers, hotdogs, and sausage dogs, homemade desserts, popcorn, drinks, and coffee. Come out and enjoy a night of good gospel singing.
