Arts Council Schedules Monthly Meeting For May 9 

The Water Valley Arts Council will host its monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 9, at 6:30 p.m., at the Water Valley Main Street Association office located at 207 North Main Street. Weekend Events At VFW Include Friday Bingo, Saturday Dance  

Weekend events at VFW Post 4100’s Home will begin with bingo on Friday night, May 5. Book sales will begin at 6 p.m. and the games start at 7. The regular Saturday night dance will be held on May 6. Providing music for the dance will be Prime Country. The music begins at 8 p.m. and concludes at midnight. The Post Home is located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. Everyone is invited to attend either, or both, of these events.

Local Order Of The Eastern Star Chapter Meets Tuesday 

Water Valley Chapter No. 5, Order of the Eastern Star will have their regular meeting on Tuesday, May 9, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. The night will begin with a pot luck supper at 6:30, and the meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. Members are hereby reminded to make an effort to attend and support your local Chapter during this new year.

Valley City Lodge Plans Thursday Meeting 

  Valley City Lodge No. 402 will hold its next stated communication on Thursday, May 4, beginning at 7 p.m., in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. All members are reminded to attend and support your local Lodge.

Multiple Year End Activities At School Scheduled In May

The graduation ceremony for Water Valley High School graduating seniors will be held Friday, May 19, beginning at 7 p.m. at Bobby Clark Field. The alternate location will be Saturday, May 20, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Water Valley High School Gymnasium, if necessary.

Scholarship opportunities are available in the counselor’s office. The 7th-11th grades awards night will be Tuesday, May 9, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Civic Auditorium. Letters will be sent home to parents of recognized students closer to the date. The Senior Walk Through/Awards Day will be held Friday, May 12, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Water Valley High School Gymnasium. All parents of seniors are invited.

Last Lions’ Club Breakfast Before Summer Break Is Saturday 

The first-of-the-month Lions’ pancake breakfast will be held Saturday, May 6, from 6:30 to 9 a.m., in the Depot Building on Main Street. Breakfast well consist of all you care to eat of pancakes, sausage, juice, and coffee. Plates will be $5 each. Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy a delicious meal, while helping to support all the many charitable events of the club.  This will be the final breakfast before summer break. The pancake breakfasts will resume on the Saturday of Watermelon Carnival.

Local Church Plans Founder’s Day Extravaganza

The church family at New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ, located on Hwy. 330 West, will have a Founder’s Day Extravaganza on Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m. until. 

Free activities include horseback riding, four-wheeler and bike rides, a bouncer, dunk booth, face painting, cake walk, paint ball and laser tag. Food served during the event will include hot dogs, chili dogs, nachos, snow cones, smoked sausages and more.

School Board Meeting Scheduled Monday 

The Water Valley School District Board of Trustees have scheduled a school board meeting on Monday, May 8th at 6:30. The public is invited to attend.

 Annual Cemetery Day Planned At Driver’s Flat

The annual Driver’s Flat Cemetery Day is scheduled  Saturday, May 6, beginning at 10:30 a.m. As always, there will be a potluck lunch in the Fellowship Hall of Driver’s Flat Church at noon. There will be a brief business meeting prior to the meal. The  maintenance and upkeep of Driver’s Flat Cemetery is taken care of through donations from family, friends, or loved ones of those buried in the cemetery and these donations are greatly appreciated. 

You are urged to continue in helping with the upkeep of the cemetery through your contributions to the Driver’s Flat Cemetery Fund.  if you are unable to give toward the upkeep on cemetery day, you can send your donation any time to: Buster Potts; 1911 Hwy. 315; Water Valley, MS 38965. Oxford Makers Market Is May 6

The next Oxford Maker’s market is Saturday, May 6. The market will be on the courthouse lawn from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with 40 vendors featuring a wide variety of handmade/homegrown goods. Live music by And The Echo will begin at noon. This is a family-friendly event and is free to the public.  This event, which occurs every first and third Saturday, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., is committed to underexposed and unrepresented talent and handmade goods of any and all styles. 

If you are interested in becoming a vendor at this or any upcoming market, please visit and sign up. The fee for a 10’x10’ booth on the counthouse lawn is $20 and must be prepaid. The Oxford Maker’s Market was founded in 2009 and is the states original local art and crafts market.
