Soccer Registration Scheduled At Magnolia Youth League

Magnolia Youth League has scheduled soccer registration at Crawford Sports Complex the next three Saturdays (July 22, July 29 and August 5) from 9 a.m. until noon. The cost will be $45 and will include a jersey and soccer socks. Players will be required to wear shin guards during all games.

Murphree Genealogical Association Schedules Convention In Grenada

The Murphree Genealogical Association Convention is scheduled Friday and Saturday, July 28 – 29, at Comfort Inn Suites in Grenada. The weekend will include genealogy research and a tour of sites in Calhoun and Yalobusha counties. The convention speaker will be Robert S. Murphree, grandson of former Governor Dennis Murphree. Registration is $20 per person and $28 per person for the banquet. All Murphree decedents are invited to attend. For more information call Bobby Murphree at (662) 809-4714. 

Gospel Music Festival Planned At Old Pine Valley School


A gospel music festival will be held in the Old Pine Valley School, 4490 Highway 32 in Pine Valley, at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 22. Admission will be $5. Larry Kilgore from Crowder, Steve McGregory from Batesville, Larry Hardy from Batesville and Liberty Hill from  Mt. Liberty Church are scheduled to take the stage. A concession stand will be open with hamburgers, hot dogs, soft drinks, and homemade desserts.  Come out and enjoy a night of good gospel music.

Yalobusha Historical Society Announces Monthly Meeting

The Yalobusha Historical Society will meet Thursday, July 20, at 2 p.m. in its headquarters the former Coffeeville Presbyterian Church.  The speaker is Mark Lawson ,director of the future North Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery being constructed in Kilmichael Lawson presents a very interesting program about who can be buried in the cemetery and who can be buried with a veteran.  He also explains how to request a burial there, and the rules and regulations. Refreshments are served afterwards. Visitors are welcome.

Friday Bingo, Saturday Dance Continues At The VFW


Events at the VFW this weekend begin with bingo on Friday night, July 21. Sales begin at 6 p.m. and the games start at 7 p.m. The regular Saturday Night Dance on July 22 will feature the music of the Bobby Hood Band. Music begins at 8 p.m. and concluded at midnight. Both events will be held in VFW Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley.

Backyard Bible Study Scheduled For Elementary Age Kids


A  Community Wide “Superheroes” Backyard Bible Study will be held at the Crawford Sports Complex in Water Valley Saturday, July 29 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Children entering kindergarten to sixth grade are invited to come hear a devotion, create an art project, sing and dance, and play recreational games. Lunch and snacks will be provided. You can get  registration forms at local vendors around own or register the day of the event.


The Pickin’ Shed Hosts Live Music, Karaoke This Weekend

The Pickin’ Shed will host live music Friday night, July 21 at 7 p.m.  The House Band, David Phillips, and other local talent will take the stage. On  Saturday night, July 22, at 7 p.m. The Pickin’ Shed is hosting Karaoke.  Singers are invited to come and participate. 

A pot luck meal will be served both nights at 6 p.m.  Bring your favorite dish and come join the fellowship. Donations are accepted on Friday night and there is a $5 cover charge on Saturday night. Alcohol is prohibited.

School Board Announces Next Meeting  Is July 24

The Water Valley School Board will meet Monday, July 24, beginning at 6:30 p.m., in the district office. This is a public meeting and everyone is invited to attend.

Annual Jeff Davis School Reunion Is August 5


The annual Jeff Davis School reunion will be held Saturday, August 5, in Bethel Baptist Church’s Fellowship Hall, beginning at 6 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish for a pot luck meal. The planning committee states that they are looking forward to seeing everyone.

Wellness Center Program Offered At Oakland Library


A James C. Kennedy  Wellness Center Program will be held at the Oakland Public Library Wednesday, July 26, beginning at 3 p.m. The Wellness Center is in a park-like setting—a place for relaxation, exercise and socialization. The path and playground are free to the public. Educational  programs and events are free to wellness center members. Also the campus includes picnic tables, a pond, and a wellness garden.
