Weekend Events At VFW Include Friday Bingo, Saturday Dance

Events at the VFW this weekend begin with bingo on Friday night, August 4. Sales begin at 6 p.m. and the games start at 7 p.m. The regular Saturday night dance on August 5 begins at 8 p.m. and concludes at midnight. Both events will be held in VFW Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. Everyone is invited to attend.

Lions Club Will Serve Pancakes

After a summer break, the Water Valley Lions Club will resume their first Saturday pancake breakfast during Watermelon Carnival weekend. On August 5, between the hours of 6:30 and 10 a.m., Lions will serve an all-you-care-to-plate of pancakes, sausage, coffee and orange juice for only $5 per plate. The event is held in the Lions Depot Building on Main Street. Also available for sale on this day will be the excellent Lions cheese. 

Monthly Lions Club Meeting Is Aug. 8

Water Valley Lions Club will have its next regular scheduled meeting at the depot on Tuesday, August 8, beginning with a meal at 6 p.m.

Valley City Lodge Sets Meeting Date

Valley City Lodge, No. 402, will hold its next stated Communication on Thursday, August 3, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. All members are reminded to attend and support their local lodge.

Eastern Star Meets Aug. 8

Water Valley Chapter No. 5, Order of Eastern Star, will have their regular monthly meeting on August 8 in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle, beginning at 6:30  p.m., with a pot luck supper. The meeting will follow at 7:30.

 Annual School Prayer Is Scheduled At Both Schools On Sunday

The annual School Prayer Walk will be held at both Davidson Elementary and Water Valley High School on Sunday, August 6, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to come out for this event. You may choose which school walk you wish to attend.

School Board Plans Aug. 7 Meeting

The Water Valley School Board will meet on Monday, August 7, at 6:30 at the central office on Market Street. The public is invited to attend.


Color Guard Will Have Bake Sale

The Water Valley High School Color Guard will have a bake sale on August 4 from 8:30 to 11:30 in front of Turnage Drug Store. Money will be utilized to help the color guard purchase flags, uniforms, and jackets. Everyone is invited to come check out the homemade goodies!

Practice Starts Monday For Youth Football League

Water Valley Youth Football 2017-18 (tackle football for boys 7-12 years old) will practice on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday of every week this month. Practice will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Water Valley High School Field. New applications are still being accepted.

Class Of 1957 Will Celebrate 60 Years

  The Water Valley Class of 1957 will celebrate their 60th Reunion on August 5, 2017, in Hometown Pizza at 11 a.m. The private dining room in the back is reserved for the Class and all members are invited to attend. Each member will pay for their own meal.

Soccer Registration Continues Aug. 5

Soccer registration continues for Magnolia Youth League at Crawford Sports Complex on Saturday, August 5, from 9 a.m. until noon. The cost will be $45 and will include a jersey and soccer socks. Players will be required to wear shin guards during all games. If there are questions regarding registration, please contact Jacob Edwards by phone or text at 662-934-3393.

Multi-Class Reunion Is August 4

  For those not involved in a more formal reunion, the annual Water Valley High School multi-class gathering will be held Friday night, August 4, beginning at 6 p.m. in the meeting room behind the Little Professionals Day Care at 521 North Court Street. The event is planned and hosted by a group of former students from the 1960s. 

But, everyone who attended the Water Valley Schools is welcome to attend. The emphasis is on the 1950s through the 1970s. There is plenty of parking and some RV hookups are available. The event will include a potluck supper and attendees are urged to bring purchased or homemade food to share. Attendees are also invited to bring photos and memorabilia.

Jeff Davis School Reunion Is August 5

The annual Jeff Davis School reunion will be held Saturday, August 5, in Bethel Baptist Church’s Fellowship Hall, beginning at 6 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish for a pot luck meal. The planning committee states that they are looking forward to seeing everyone.

Class Of 1967 To Celebrate 50th

The Class of 1967 will meet for their 50th class reunion Saturday evening, August 5, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Little Professionals Day Care, 521 North Court Street. The first hour is set aside for visiting with members of other classes, family, and friends. All are welcome during the visiting hours, according to reunion planners. Dinner will be served starting at 7 p.m. Class members are urged to bring old photos, programs, or other items relating to the class.
