Democratic Party Meeting Rescheduled To October 14.

The Democratic Party Committee meeting will be  held on Saturday, October 14, at 10 a.m., at Oakland in the Oakland Town Hall, 13863 Hickory Street. This is being rescheduled from the original date of September 9, 

“We look forward to seeing you all there,” stated Carolyn Lear. Refreshments will be served.


September’s YHS Speaker Will Talk About Search For Mary Magdalene

The Yalobusha County Historical Society will meet Thursday, September 21, at 2 p.m. in its headquarters the former Coffeeville Presbyterian Church. Al Price is the speaker, and his topic is “In Search of Mary, the Magdalene.”  It is about a research trip Al and his son took in the South of France to investigate the legend that Mary Magdalene spent the last half of her life there.  What they found was absolutely astounding and very few people know the story.

Al Price is a retired professor of sociology and mental health therapist and lives in Henderson, Tenn.  He was born in Oakland, and also lived in Coffeeville and Water Valley.

Refreshments are served and visitors are welcome.


 Christmas Parade Will Roll Down Main On December 2

The annual Water Valley Christmas Parade, “Christmas in the Valley,” is scheduled the first Saturday in December (December 2), starting at 1 p.m. The rain date will be the following Saturday, if needed. All churches, businesses, factories, school groups, and individuals are urged to participate in this annual event.

Use your imagination and make plans to participate  in the annual Water Valley Christmas parade, reported Womble. The parade is sponsored by the Tri-Lake Fairground Association.


Delta Rockers Will Rock The VFW Saturday Night

Events at VFW Post 4100 this weekend begins with Bingo on Friday night, September 15. Sales begin at 6 p.m. and the games start at 7 p.m. The regular Saturday Night Dance on September 16 begins at 8 p.m. and concludes at midnight. Doors open at 5:30. Providing the music will be the Delta Rockers. Both events will be held in VFW Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. Everyone is invited to attend.


Gourd Program Planned At Visitor’s Education Center

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) Visitor Education Center (VEC) adjacent to Enid Lake will host a Gourd Program on Saturday, September 23 at 2 p.m. Participants of all ages will have the opportunity to create bird houses and decorations with fall harvest and holiday themes.

 The program is free with price of admission. Supplies are provided and space is limited. Admission is $2.50 for adults ages 18-59, and $2.00 for youth ages 3-17 and adults over the age of 60. For additional information or to pre-register for the event, call the VEC at (662) 563-8068.

 The VEC is part of the MDWFP North Mississippi Fish Hatchery and is located at Exit 233 east off I-55.


Veterans Invited To Free Meal In Recognition Of MIA/POW Day

All veterans are invited to attend a free dinner, being served in the Depot Building, September 15, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m in recognition of MIA/POW Day.


Friends And Family Are Invited To Help Edwin Earl Hill Celebrate 90th

Edwin Earl Hill will be 90 years old on September 21. An open house in  his honor will be held Saturday, September 16, from two to four in the afternoon, at  his  home, located at 713 West Lee Street. The celebration will be hosted by his family and they invite all his extended family and friends to drop by and say “hello” and wish him a happy birthday. No gifts please—Your attendance will be you gifts. 


Pine Valley Homecoming Is Sept. 16

The Pine Valley School Reunion/Homecoming is scheduled for the third Saturday in September (Sept. 16).  Mark your calendar and come out for a great day. All are welcome, you did not have to go to school or even to have lived in the community to attend. Please come out and remember to bring your favorite food to share for lunch, which will be served around noon. The day’s activities begin around 10 a.m. with some good fellowship and music. The school is located at the corner of Highway 32 East and CR 212.


Crocker Family Reunion Is Sept. 17

The Crocker family reunion will be held Sunday, September 17, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish to share at the noon meal. The reunion will be held in the Sylva Rena Community Center. For more information contact Patsy Schroyer at 473-9548.
