Oakland Christmas Parade Will  Be Held On December 9

The Oakland Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, December 9, beginning at 3 p.m.  There is no entry fee and all churches, businesses, factories, school, social clubs, groups, and individuals are urged to participate. Lions Club Will Serve Breakfast

  The Water Valley Lions Club will hold their first-of-the month pancake breakfast on Saturday, December 2, from 6-9 a.m. in the Depot Building on Main Street. For only $5 per plate you will be served pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice. The excellent Lion’s Club cheese will also be available for sale at this time. 

“Come out, eat a delicious breakfast, purchase some great cheese, and enjoy some wonderful fellowship, on Parade Day,” invites Terry Champion, publicity chair for the Lions Club.

Prayer Meeting Scheduled Thursday At Water Valley Bandstand

A Community-wide Prayer Meeting is scheduled Thursday, November 30, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Water Valley Bandstand. This is being held to pray for many events in the community including the upcoming election.

Everyone is invited to come out and stand up for Jesus Christ. II Chronicles 7:14, states, “If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven and will forgive their sins, and will heal their lands.” 

Jesus Christ can, and will, change things, if we are willing.

FCCLA Will Host High School Formal Christmas Ball 

Family, Career, Community Leaders of America will have a High School Formal Christmas Ball December 8, from 6:30-9 p.m. in the First Baptist Church Activity Center, located on Main Street in Water Valley. Tickets are $8 per person. Contact Mrs. Judith Jones a for additional details.

School Board Schedules Meeting

The Water Valley School District Board of Trustees have scheduled a school board meeting on Monday, Dec. 4th, at 6:30 p.m. in the Central Office. The public is invited to attend.


Christmas Decorating Program Planned At Oakland Library

Decorating for Christmas, a Christmas program hosted by Aline Denley will be held in the Oakland Public Library December 6, beginning at 3 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend and refreshments will be served.

Annual DAR Carols And Cookies Planned At Veteran’s Home 

The annual DAR Christmas Carols and Cookies will be held at the Mississippi Veterans Home at 12:30 pm on Thursday, December 7. Members of the David Reese Chapter will provide holiday gift cookies to share with resident veterans. Chaplain Monica Hearn will provide piano accompaniment for the singing of traditional Christmas carols. Linda Norwood, Chairman of the Veterans Service Committee, coordinates the event. Youth Vineyard Will Host Talent Show On Dec. 2

Youth Vineyard, Inc., established in 2006 under the leadership of Terry Rockette, will be hosting a showcase of talent on December 2, starting at 5 p.m in the Water Valley Civic Auditorium. The event will celebrate Youth Vineyard’s 11th year anniversary of child and youth development. The gospel singing, featuring choirs and groups, will begin at 5 p.m. The youth talent show starts at 7:30 p.m. There will be a first and second place winner. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted at the door for the Vineyard’s Christmas projects.

Weekend Events At The VFW Include Friday Bingo, Saturday Dance

Events at VFW Post 4100 this weekend begin with bingo on Friday night, December 1. Sales begin at 6 p.m. and the games start at 7 p.m. The regular Saturday night dance on December 2 begins at 8 p.m. and concludes at midnight. The Delta Rockers will provide the music and there is a $10 cover charge. The doors open at 6. Both events will be held in VFW Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. Everyone is invited to attend.

Business Alliance Will Host Mayoral Candidates Forum

Thursday, November 30th, the Water Valley Business Alliance will host a Mayoral Candidates Forum in the Mechanics Bank Community Room from 6 to 8 PM. Donald Gray, Mickey Howley, Terry Rockette, and Herbie Rogers will answer questions about issues facing the City. Everyone is invited; admission is free. 

Library Requests Your Help Decorating Christmas Tree

Blackmur Library is seeking help decorating their Christmas tree! Parents are invited to bring their kids to Blackmur Memorial Library Saturday, December  2, from 9-11 a.m. before the Christmas parade to make decorations for the library’s Christmas tree. There will be ornaments for children to make, snacks and goodies and, rumor has it a special visitor might be stopping by.
