Weekend Rain Helps With Lengthy Dry Spell
Last week my article talked a little bit about how dry the county has been for a while. This week I guess I will talk about the wet forecast ahead. On Saturday night and Sunday I emptied out 1.2 inches out of my gauge with a promise of more rainfall to come from local weathermen. The prediction is for two to four inches on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. I certainly hope that we can catch up some on the rainfall to finish out the year, we need it.
One problem after being so dry in all the fields is that a big rainfall event increases erosion.
Our office will be closed from Thursday Dec. 21 through Jan. 1. We will reopen on Jan. 2 at 8 a.m. I will be around town all of the Christmas and New Year holidays so if someone needs something you can call our office and leave a message and I will try to get back with you. I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Over this season please take time to spend with family and loved ones whether or not gifts are involved.
This Christmas will be my second working with the Extension Service and with the time off that we get during the break I like to plan my work list that I would like to complete while on my vacation. Last year I helped build a workshop building for my mother-in-law. Some of you might remember from one of my articles during that time that I shot a three-inch long framing nail in my wrist. This year I am planning on building a tree house for my boys in our backyard. I have been working on a materials list some over the past weekend and the first thing on the list is a big bucket of screws. I hope to get this project done without any serious injuries.
