Church Calendar of Events

Saturday, Feb. 24


The public is invited to attend a Black History Program at Rocky Mt. Church, located at 1339 CR 92, Water Valley, on Saturday evening February 24, beginning at 4 p.m. The guest speaker will be Mr. Julius Harris from Sardis. He is a former educator, community organizer and participant in marches with the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Mr. Harris possesses a wealth of knowledge about this state and African-American history. Much of the information can be found in the New Civil Rights Museum in  Jackson. Refreshments will be served.

A banquet honoring Pastor Sammy Townes and his wife, Katherine,  is scheduled February 24, beginning at 6 p.,m. at Spring Hill North Baptist Church. Tickets, which are $20 for an individual, or $25 for a couple, are now being sold, or you may pay at the door. Guest speaker will be Pastor Terri Barnes from Mount Pleasant Church in Duck Hill. Sunday, Feb. 25


The church family at Oak Grove C.M.E. Church in Bruce will have their Black History Program Sunday, February 25, beginning at 2:30 p.m. The speaker for the program will be Rev. Tillman of Houlka. 

“Everyone is invited to attend this special service,” states Rev. Willie Nichols, pastor.

Everdale M.B. Church will have their Black History Program, beginning at 3 p.m., on Sunday, February 25. Pastor Calvin Hawkins will bring the message. 

“Everyone is welcome to attend this service,” stated Pastor Philip Brackett and Larry Stokes, program chairman. Everdale is located at 599 Wise Street, Water Valley.


Sunday, March 4


The Family and Friends Day Program will be held at Chapel Hill Church on Sunday, March 4, beginning at 3 p.m. The guest speaker for the evening service will be Rev. Adam Tyson, who will be accompanied by the Jordan Chapel Church family from Oxford. 

“Everyone is cordially invited to come out and worship with us during this special program,” says Rev. Jerome Battle, pastor.

United M.B. Church will have their Black History Program March 4, beginning at 2:30  p.m. Guest speaker will be Dr. Vivian Robinson, Superintendent of the Coffeeville School District. The guest choir will be the Skuna Valley Male Chorus. “Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the program,” stated Rev. Calvin Hawkins, pastor; and sponsors, Bro. Clayton Horton and Sis. Annie Covington.

Oak Grove C.M.E. Church will have their Fruit  of the Spirit Program Sunday, March 4. The church is located at 2445 CR 121, Water Valley.  

“Everyone is invited to attend this special  program,” stated Rev. Michael Phillips, pastor, Sis. Martha Telford, and Min. Carolyn Cooke, coordinators.


March 6-8


The annual spring revival is scheduled at Springhill North Baptist Church March 6 – 8, beginning each night at 7:15. Guest evangelist will be  Rev. Alex Cook from Houston.

Sunday, March 11 


Green Goshen C.M.E. Church will have their Family and Friends day March 11, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Michael Phillips, pastor of Oak Grove C.M.E. Church in Water Valley will be the guest speaker. He will be accompanied by his church family. 

“Come help lift up the name of Jesus in a special way on our annual Family and Friends Day,” stated Pastor Wilbert Bolden. 

The church is located at 2731 CR 58, Water Valley, and services are held every second, third, and fourth Sunday, starting with Sunday School at 10 a.m., followed by worship service at 11.


Sunday, March 17


A Women’s Conference sponsored by the Women’s Fellowship Ministry of Philadelphia M.B. Church in Oakland os scheduled Saturday, March 17, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The theme of the conference will be Chosen Vessel, with scripture Isaiah 64:8. This program is for women 18 and over and dress will be casual. Rev. Columbus Bell is pastor of the church. There is a $5 registration  and early registrations should be received by February 25. Saturday, March 17


Union Hill Church will have their birthday tea Sunday, March 18, beginning at 2:30 p.m. 

“Everyone is invited to attend,” stated Pastor Russell Brooks.
