WATER VALLEY – Veteran New England singer-songwriter Cormac McCarthy will return to the Melonvine Marketplace for a very special concert. McCarthy takes the stage on Saturday, March 31, at 7 p.m. and offers the audience a chance to get up close and personal with one of Maine’s true local treasures.
McCarthy is a literate and engaging songwriter, accomplished guitarist and veteran performer who delivers songs about real people and the universal themes that bind us.
“A distinctive songwriter with a warm, powerful, inherently melodic baritone, a fine guitarist and a devastating wit … enormous writing gifts, capable of putting chills into your spine or a silly grin on your face…”reported Jeff McLaughlin of The Boston Globe.
Foster Music & Arts, the organization that promotes concerts at the Old School Theater, was born almost two years ago and McCarthy, who was scheduled to play in Water Valley as part of his southern tour at that time, became the first person to play at the Melonvine Marketplace. The concert was held in one of the front function rooms because the theater renovation was still in progress.
In honor of that first show, Saturday’s show will be held in another of the front rooms of the venue, the musician’s green room of the Old School Theater, a more intimate and cozy environment for this type of performance.
The room is not actually green. In show business, the term green room refers to the space in a theater that functions as a waiting room and lounge for performers. The green room is comfortably set up with upholstered chairs and couches.
All Foster Music & Arts shows are sponsored in part by the generous support of The Caryl Company and the Melonvine Marketplace. The McCarthy show is also sponsored by Turnage Drug Store.
All tickets are $12 at the door.
