Living Well In Yalobusha County

The long anticipated MSU Extension Service Holiday House is this Saturday, October 27, starting at 8 a.m. at the Multi-Purpose Building in Coffeeville. The exciting lineup includes vendors to help you start your Christmas shopping and holiday demonstrations. There are also fun activities for the kids including a Halloween costume contest for youth (ages 0-12), Trick or Treating, a petty zoo and jumpies and games.

We are also excited to announce our demonstrators. Our first presenter at 10 a.m. is Mrs. Patricia Weathersby of Oxford. Mrs. Weathersby is a member of the The Garden Club of Water Valley.   She will be showing us how to make beautiful fall and holiday designs.  Our next presenter at noon will be Mrs. Audrey Nichols of Two Little Bears Bakery in Coffeeville.   She will be helping us get ready for holiday parties with holiday inspired baked goods.

You should come hungry, as the FCS 4-H Club will serve a pancake breakfast during the Holiday House from 7 to 10 a.m. Pancake plate tickets are $5 and include three pancakes, two sausages, coffee and juice.  You can purchase your tickets from any FCS 4-H Club member or from the Extension Office.  A limited number of walk up plates will be available.  A 4-H barbecue lunch will also be served.

Our 4-H Decorated Pumpkin Contest is another exciting event, both for spectators and competitors. This contest is for active 4-H members. Competitors are reminded not to puncture or carve pumpkins when decorating.  This year monetary prizes will be given for first, second and third place.  Registration forms and Pumpkins are due to the Extension office by 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 25.

Remember there is still time to purchase a raffle ticket to win either an Ole Miss or a MSU fleece blanket. The United Y.C. MHV club are selling the tickets for a $1 each. Tickets can be purchased from an MHV member, at the MSU Extension Office and during the Holiday House.  The drawing for the blankets will take place later in the day during the Holiday House.

A Canvas Painting Class is scheduled Friday, Nov. 16. Grab a Couple of friends and join us for food, fun and painting at the Yalobusha County Extension Service on Friday, November 16th from 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.  We will be painting a pumpkin canvas.  All supplies will be provided as well as a light meal.  Class is limited to 20 adult participants and the registration fee is $25.  Call the Extension Office to register at 675-2730.  (You must pay fee to be considered registered for class).

The Healthy You exercise class meets on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Extension Office.  The classes are free.  Make sure to wear cool comfortable clothes, good walking shoes and bring some water to drink.  Exercise class will not meet on Friday, October 26th due to Holiday House.
