Kyle’s News And Reviews

Over the past weekend I was in Jackson attending the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation Convention.  A friend recently asked me exactly what goes on at these meetings and I took a few minutes to explain some of the high points of the Federation.

First, Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation is a different entity from Farm Bureau, actually the Federation owns the insurance companies.  The way Farm Bureau works by offering memberships to the Federation and that money is used throughout the state and nation to help farming and farm families.  At the state convention the Federation compiles a book of policies that the group adopts, which is passed along to all lawmakers in the state and nation so they will be familiar with Farm Bureau Federation’s stance on important issues.

Another big part of the annual convention is giving out all of the statewide awards like Farm Woman of the year, Ag Ambassador, Friend of Agriculture, Excellence in Leadership, Distinguished Service, Young Farm and Rancher Discussion Meet winner, and the Young Farmer & Rancher Young Farmer of the Year award.  Yalobusha county farmers have been very well represented in the past with several locals claiming these awards.

Saturday before I left for Jackson, my family and I was able to go to Batesville to get a Christmas tree and run several other errands. We finished the day at the Water Valley Christmas Parade.  We all had a good time seeing all of the floats and catching all of the candy.  My boys each filled up a Walmart sack with candy which was promptly hidden after we got home.  The weather was great all weekend after the rain cleared out.
