Do You Have A Carnival Memory To Share?

The Watermelon Carnival Committee is looking for some personal carnival memories to include in this year’s souvenir program. If you would like to contribute your “Best Carnival Memory,” please share your story in 100 typed words or less and submit it to manager Zandra Walker at the Chamber of Commerce office building, located at  206 North Main Street. The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 3.

Please note the actual carnival dates are August 2-3, but the print deadline for the program booklet is much earlier.

While there is no age limit for persons submitting memories, the committee hopes to receive stories from some of the older carnivals, as well as the more recent ones.  You may even choose to submit a story that has been passed down from one of the first 10 carnivals, held from 1931 to 1940.

The carnivals were halted after 1940, due to our country’s involvement in World War II and were not revived until 1980.

This year marks the milestone celebration of Water Valley’s 50th Watermelon Carnival, even though the lapse in  continuous years prevents it from being considered the 50th anniversary.
