Interviews Underway For School Superintendent

WATER VALLEY – Interviews are underway as the Water Valley School Board of Trustees is working to hire a new superintendent for the district. Six candidates made the short list after the position closed on March 31 and board president Pierce Epes reported last week that most of the candidates have already met with the school board.

The process started back in February when the school board hired the Mississippi Educational Search Consortium to lead the effort to hire the school’s new leader. The consortium is a new, non-profit organization established to offer alternative ways to help a school district hire a superintendent.

The organization scheduled stakeholder meetings with parents, teachers and administrators for input about local expectations for the position. The organization also vetted the candidates before making recommendations to the school board.

A hire is expected to be made by the end of April as part of the timeline for filling the position.

Current superintendent Dr. Michael McInnis is leaving the district at the end of the school year to take a job as superintendent at the Harrisburg School District in Arkansas. He has served as the superintendent in Water Valley for four years.
