Williams Hired As Superintendent
WATER VALLEY – The search for a new superintendent ended Monday after the Water Valley School District Board of Trustees voted to extend an offer to Jerry Williams during Monday night’s school board meeting. Trustee Taylor Trusty reported that Williams accepted the offer and is excited to be the next leader for the Blue Devil family.
Williams and his family will come to Water Valley from the Grenada School District, where he has served since 2008 as principal at Grenada High School. He also served as athletic director in addition to his principal duties from 2010-2012, until that practice was dis-allowed by the state.
Williams started with the Grenada School District in 2006 as an assistant principal at the high school. He started his administrative career as an assistant principal at Charleston High School in 2005. Prior to his administrative work he was a classroom teacher in the Lee County School District at Saltillo Elementary School and Saltillo High School. He started his teaching career at Lee Academy in Clarksdale in 1997.
Williams was among six finalists who were interviewed for the position following an extensive search spearheaded by the Mississippi Educational Search Consortium, a non-profit organized hired by the school board to help find and vet candidates.
“The Board spent many hours reviewing background information and interviewing superintendent candidates and Mr. Williams’ confident disposition, community spirit and enthusiasm were exceptional,” the school board reported in a statement released Tuesday. “With his background and academic focus, we feel confident that our school system will be in capable hands.”
