Authorities Continue To Investigate Highway Homicide
WATER VALLEY – Authorities are continuing to investigate the March 29 shooting that claimed the life of a Charleston man.
Barney Edward Frost, Jr. was gunned down on Hwy 7, south of Water Valley in a vehicle pursuit following an altercation in Lafayette County. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. and Sheriff Mark D. Fulco reported that an occupant or occupants in one vehicle shot into the second vehicle where Frost was a passenger.
Another person was injured in an earlier shooting on County Road 328 in Lafayette County in a dispute authorities believe was connected to high stakes betting on street racing. Shortly afterwards, two vehicles left that scene and headed south on Hwy. 7 at a high rate of speed when the shots were fired that killed Frost. The driver of the vehicle pulled into Reedy Acres and dialed 911.
Fulco reported that officers from the Water Valley and Coffeeville police departments responded along with his department. He said it took them a few minutes to pinpoint where the 911 call originated. He also said the driver of the vehicle took cover and did not come out until officers secured the scene. The sheriff said the second vehicle was long gone when they arrived.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assisting and Fulco said more details about the investigation will be released at the appropriate time.
