Base Camp’s Class Of 2020 Will Start Classes In New Building In September

Work continues at Everest, a high-tech educational hub that will house classes for Base Camp Coding Academy and Northwest Mississippi Community College. Base Camp deferred the start of the school year from June to September for the incoming class. Classroom instruction is scheduled to start on Sept. 8 in the new location, allowing time for much of the work on the building to be completed. The once abandoned industrial building is located on Central Street in Water Valley.

Twenty-five students representing 15 area public high schools and two homeschooling programs have been selected for Base Camp Coding Academy’s Class of 2020.

This fresh crop of Mississippi talent has weathered a challenging senior year of their high school experience, a new socially-distanced admissions process with Base Camp and a creative summer of small projects that will lead into the delayed targeted start date of Sept. 8.

The decision was made to begin this class in the new Everest facility in September, where a combination of space and new video equipment will allow Base Camp Coding Academy to provide a safe learning and work environment, without compromising the benefits of collaboration and constant access to teaching staff that has made Base Camp’s model so successful over the past four years.
