EMA Director Thanks Deputies And Volunteers

By Dalton Coleman
Yalobusha EMA Director

Late Friday evening, October 30, the Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Department received a call about a possible missing person on 1608 County Road 139. The Yalobusha County EMA also responded with a side-by-side to help aid in the search. This search was different to us because the missing man was actually one of our own, Skuna Valley Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Shelby Brower.
A quick search was conducted at surrounding houses and sheds with no success. The searchers then moved across the road on his property where a trail camera was discovered. We pulled the card from the camera and found a picture of Brower walking west from the camera.  We came up empty Friday night and the search stopped around 2 a.m. Saturday morning.
On Saturday morning, around 8:30 a.m., the EMA crew and Yalobusha County Search and Rescue Team resumed the search with an all-day effort with no success.
On Sunday morning some friends from the family went one property over and found Mr. Brower. The sheriff’s department was called out to investigate. The cause of death is still under investigation and our thoughts and prayers go out to the Brower family.
He was a great public servant, serving on the fire department for many years. He will be greatly missed. A huge thank-you is extended to the deputies of the Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Department, the Yalobusha County Search and Rescue Team, The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, the Lafayette County EMA and the Lafayette County Fire Department.
The Lafayette County EMA and fire department brought drones to aid in the search Saturday.
A huge thanks is also extended to The Ville LLC of Coffeeville and their workers for providing supper and coffee Friday night and providing breakfast and lunch Saturday. They went above and beyond to provide food and drinks for us. We have a great group of deputies and volunteers in the county and I cannot thank them enough for what they do!
