Sign Up For Free Weather Alert

Yalobusha citizens can sign up for free weather alerts available for both cell phones and land lines. The free service is provided by Yalobusha County. CodeRED Weather Warnings deliver advanced notification of severe weather events as soon as a bulletin is issued by the National Weather Service (NWS). The system delivers voice calls, text messages and emails within the direct path of the storm to subscribed users
EMA Director Dalton Coleman reported that the threat of severe weather typically ramps up in March in Mississippi.
“You can’t rule out storms in February, just like the weather today (Tuesday), we are having mild weather and in the next few days we are going down to sub freezing temperatures,” Coleman added.
The EMA director explained the CodeRED system is ideal for elderly residents who may not use a cell phone, as they can receive alerts on their land line.
“My grandparents have signed up for Code-RED and they still have one land line phone does not require electricity. If they lose power and can’t watch television, they can still receive alerts,” Coleman told the Herald.
To sign up for Code-RED, contact Robin Harrington at the E911 at the Coffeeville courthouse at (662) 675-2556. You can also sign up online at ncpdd.info. When the website loads, scroll down to the CodeRED Weather Warning button and fill out the required information.
Coleman also reminded Yalobusha residents that there are nine storm shelters scattered across the county. The shelters are located at Pine Valley, O’Tuckolofa, Sylva Rena, Velma, Skuna Valley, Clear Springs, Oakland and Tillatoba fire departments.
