AMORY – The Water Valley Blue Devils golf teams were back in action on Thursday, as they competed in the Amory Invitational at River Birch Golf Course in Amory. The tournament was attended by many schools in north Mississippi, such as Amory, Hatley, Nettleton and Smithville; as well as Region 3 co-competitors South Pontotoc and New Albany.
Despite a cold, windy day, and with the golf course still recovering from strong storms that blew through earlier in the week, the Water Valley girls placed first in the team competition (beating the New Albany girls by four strokes). Sydney Epes placed first among all the girls.
The Water Valley Boys’ varsity team placed second in team competition with a strong showing by the Water Valley boys’ junior varsity team, who placed fifth.
The teams will be back in action on Wednesday, April 7, for the rescheduled Kossuth Invitational at Shiloh Ridge Golf Course in Corinth.
On Thursday, April 8, they will play a match against Bruce/Houston/Calhoun City High School at Calhoun City Country Club.
