Have you marked your calendar for August 6 and 7 yet? What are you waiting for?! You don’t want to miss the Watermelon Carnival, an annual Water Valley event that brings people together for a fun-filled weekend.
“Last year the Watermelon Carnival was canceled due to safety concerns because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Justin Canterbury, president of the Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce. “This year we are pleased to announce the 51st Watermelon Carnival will be back and better than ever.”
“The Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce has consulted with Mayor Donald Gray and the Board of Aldermen. With their guidance, we will work with the City and all our vendors to make sure everyone feels safe to bring their family and enjoy this year’s Carnival,” Canterbury continued “Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the street dance, fireworks, arts and crafts, live music, children’s games, antique car show, Casey Jones Railroad Museum, barbecue contest, and lots of home-grown watermelon.”
A major event in the southeast, the Watermelon Carnival is a two-day extravaganza beginning with a street dance on Friday night followed by a spectacular fireworks display. On Saturday Carnival goers can enjoy all-day music, arts & craft booths, a car show at Shuffield Park, and free trolley rides to downtown shops and galleries. You can even take a trip back in time with a visit to the Casey Jones Railroad Museum located in the heart of down-town Water Valley, at the former ICRR Depot. The mouth-watering Train Track Pork Attack BBQ Contest is another popular event on Saturday.
Plans are being made for more special events and activities for all ages, literally there will be something for everyone at the carnival.
