WATER VALLEY – Farm Bureau was presented the Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce Business Spotlight Award on Monday, September 13, in honor of a century of service to the county.
Yalobusha County Farm Bureau was incorporated on June 4, 1921 as a member of the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation. Mississippi Farm Bureau is an agricultural organization created to give Mississippi farmers and Farm Bureau members a better life and help at making a better living. One of the benefits of being a Farm Bureau member is being able to get home, auto, farm and life insurance.
A full service office was established in 1954 with John Ashford as the insurance agency manager. Ira Pittman was president of the Board of Directors. Ashford remained the agency manager for 42 years. The first office was located in an upstairs room above Turnage Drug Store.
In 1989, Farm Bureau bought the corner lot on Frostland Drive and Champion Circle where they are presently located. Donald Gray and Anita Langdon both came to work with Farm Bureau in 1983. Bradley Brown became the Agency Manager in 2014. Chuck Upchurch joined the staff in 2015 and Donna Ragon in 2017. They are here to serve the home, auto, life and farm insurance needs of the people of Yalobusha County. Their hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
