Compassion Ministries has scheduled early dates available for the annual recertification of clients. The ministry has been helping meet the need of food insecurity in Yalobusha and Lafayette counties for over 22 years. Since March of 2020 that job has been made even more difficult with the pandemic. October is the annual recertification period for clients of Compassion Ministries.
The Board of Directors has approved the following dates for clients to come early to rectify for their monthly food boxes. The ministry would also like to remind clients that the following Covid-19 precautions remain in effect:
• The ministry is open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Monday, October 11 and Tuesday, October 12. For clients who are able, please come to the parking lot of Compassion Ministries (where you pick up your boxes) on one of these days if you normally pick up your food on the first distribution day of the month.
Compassion volunteers will be set up under a tent to process your new application and verify qualifications for free food. Clients are not allowed inside the warehouse due to Covid-19. You will remain in your car and someone will bring an application to you. After you are finished filling out your application, someone will come to your car and certify your qualifications for food assistance. Masks and social distancing will be in effect.
• All clients are required to show a photo ID as well as proof of residence (utility bill, rent receipt, etc.) and proof of income for all residents of the household. If these items are not shown, you will have to return home to get them or wait until a later date to be certified. Clients will not be allowed to pick up their food box until Thursday, October 14 at the regular scheduled time. Please have all of your paperwork ready when you arrive to streamline the process.
• Compassion Ministries will have the same early certification on Monday, October 26 and Tuesday, October 27, from 1 to 5 p.m. for clients who normally pick up food on the second distribution date of the month. All of the above requirements will still be in effect.
• If you do not recertify on the early dates you can come on your regular distribution days and fill out your applications, but you will have to wait in line and all Covid precautions will be in effect.
The ministry reported the intent is to make the recertification process as effortless as possible, so come with some patience and have all your paperwork in order. Volunteers will do their best to make the process as fast as possible.
