WATER VALLEY – A second candidate has qualified to run in the special election for sheriff in Yalobusha County. Circuit Clerk Daryl Burney reported Luther G. Folson, Jr. filed paperwork Monday. Brent Anderson has also qualified to run.
Candidates must pay a $100 filing fee and obtain 50 signatures from registered voters in the county to qualify. Candidates can qualify through Sept. 8. The special election for the county’s top law enforcement position will be held Nov. 8, 2022, the same date as the General Election in the state. If necessary, a runoff will follow on Nov. 28.
The special election will be non-partisan, which means there will be no party primaries and all candidates will run as independents. If no candidate receives a majority of the votes cast, a runoff will follow the Nov. 8 election on Nov. 28.
