We started this past week off a little crazy with no power until third period. Walking in the school and through the hallways was honestly fun until it got a little cold, but we survived and warmed up pretty quick. The rest of our week was extremely similar to our hectic Monday morning with baseball, softball, and basketball games along with archery meets and club events.
The boy’s basketball finished out their season on February 15 against North Panola in the first round of playoffs. This season was filled with tough practices, lots of drills, workouts, warm-ups, games, and teamwork for the Blue Devils. Each game allowed them to grow not only in their skill, but also come together as a team resulting in a successful season for the guys.
The Lady Devils softball team played Oxford on February 16th. This was the team’s first regular season game. The girls fought hard but came short, however this game really got the girls in the groove of things allowing them to easily slide into the start of the season.
“This season, I am excited to see us grow as a team, especially since we are a young team. This past game against Oxford revealed the small things we need to work on in order to better our game, but overall I cannot wait to be on the field with these girls giving it all we have!” Bri Parrish, co-captain of the Lady Devils, stated. Weather permitting, the girls play their first home against Eupora on February 24. The junior varsity game starts at 5 and the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.
The Blue Devil baseball program had a successful start to their season this week. The boys played Houston on February 15, defeating the team by four runs. They also played Cleveland Central on February 16th, winning 4-1. The team is hopeful for the rest of the season focusing not on individual wins but growth in overall ability as a team which will ultimately reap the wanted results.
Archery kicked off its season this past week with their first meet against Cleveland Central. Archery team members practice after school every day, focusing on overcoming mistakes and aiming straight. The team likes to fix one mistake at a time and then move forward from there. Each day at practice is a new day to improve upon what was accomplished the day before. The team shot against Cleveland on February 15, taking home a first place win with a score of 3,129 team points.
Walker Tedford was the best male shooter with a score of 278 and Maris Lindsey was the best female shooter with a score of 272. Archery’s next meet is at home in the WVHS gym against Lafayette.

Students gathered together to worship at FCA’s first ever Courts of Christ.
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes club hosted their first-ever Courts of Christ on February 16 in the WVHS gym. Students came out to hear about the freedom that can only be found through Christ and were able to worship without borders next to their friends.
Ole Miss football alum, Jared Farlow, shared his personal testimony of freedom in Christ, then students dispersed to different prayer stations focusing on fears and burdens that seem to chain them up. The night was filled with realizations that could only be recognized through Jesus. FCA meets every other Wednesday in the gym at 7:30 am.
All juniors are taking the ACT on March 1 through WVHS. Preparations for that are right around the corner. The juniors have an ACT workshop on February 25 in order to best equip students for the test.
Busy is an understatement for this past week at school. There are so many sports and events happening at once that it can be hard to keep up with it all. However, for me I like being busy. I like being able to have events and sports on my calendar because those are the things that make school fun and I love sharing those activities here with the community!
