Jarred Logan of Coffeeville was hired as the deputy EMA Director Monday.
WATER VALLEY – The Yalobusha County Board of Supervisors hired Stewart Spence as the new emergency management agency (EMA) director and Jarred Logan as EMA deputy director. The hires were part of a marathon seven and a half hour meeting Monday at the Water Valley courthouse that included lengthy interviews for six candidates who applied for the job – Stewart Spence, Steven Spence, Logan, Michael Stevens, Herbie Roger and Cameron Cummings.
Both Spence and Logan will earn $21,500 each, as the duties will be divide between the two men. Previously the EMA position had been filled by one paid person. Most recently, Dalton Coleman serve from May, 2020, until Feb. 28, 2022. He announced his resignation earlier in February. Prior to Coleman, Frank Hyde served as the EMA Director. Together Spence and Logan will earn close to the same annual salary the county paid Hyde.
Speaking after the meeting, which included discussion in executive session about the candidates after the interviews, Board President Cayce Washington reported the men were willing to split the job duties. Washington added that Spence will be the lead person, which Logan working under him.
“The deputy EMA Director can act in the director’s position in his absence,” Washington added.
In addition to EMA duties, the position also includes E911 Coordinator and Rural Fire Coordinator. Excercts from both men’s interviews will be reported in next week’s edition of the Herald, as they shared insight on their vision going forward.
