COFFEEVILLE – Supervisors voted unanimously to end the mask mandate in the county’s courthouses. The decision came during Monday morning’s meeting in the Coffeeville courthouse effective immediately.
“It is stopping the mandate to wear a mask, but it is not saying you can’t wear a mask,” District Five Supervisor Gaylon Gray reminded supervisors during the discussion before the vote Monday. “People have been raising cain about it. I think this wave has gone and we are under no local or state emergency.”
“What about the ones who are not vaccinated, they should wear a mask?” District 2 Supervisor Ken Rogers asked.
“There is no way to know who is vaccinated and who is not,” Board President Cayce Washington answered.
Washington also said that the temporary shields installed in county offices to protect county employees from potential exposure to Covid-19 will remain up. Planning is underway to install permanent shields in the courthouse offices.
“If there is another surge, we can always put a mandate back on,” Gray added.
