Last week began Monday with a beautiful sunny spring day. Our adventure for the day was a trip to the shower house. On the way out we stopped for a short visit with Bo and Carolyn. Brothers Bo and Don had repaired and painted trim on the house, and to our surprise Bo had not damaged the shoulder scheduled for replacement next week on April 12. Hope we can keep him from doing damage to it until then. Carolyn reported that she was making us ham and dumplings for supper Friday night. This is always a treat.
My doctor’s appointment was about 10:30 Tuesday morning and was only blood work, so we were hoping to get back on the road before the cloud burst. Saw a few Vallians on the trip. Jodie Leonard was not my nurse for the day, but did get to wave at her. Tiana got the draw for me and she is very efficient and professional, as are all the nurses. Didn’t even feel the pin prick and she drew her vials of blood.
Coming out I enjoyed a short visit with Sheila Hawkins, head of the Chem Lab, another Vallian. Further down the hall I met Mary Nell Shelton and her daughter-in-law, Spring Crenshaw.
Spring’s cancer treatment has also been changed. She was up-beat though and thought it would work. My cancer treatment had been changed the week before and it has many side-affects for me.
One, which fortunately I did not get, was lowering blood counts –red, white, and platelets – are all still okay.
Rest of the week was pretty dull-watching westerns, news, and working on the latest jig-saw puzzle, which is going slowly. Great-niece Caroline did not join us this week as she attended the Veterinary Department’s Clinic for school students.
Caroline plans to become a vet. She sent pictures of her visit. First one was her holding a huge snake with a horrified look on her face. In the second picture she was still holding the snake, but with a smile. When Jimmie talked to her she says, “MeMaw I really was scared.”
Can’t wait to hear further details of the trip. This will have to wait another week though because Amory is hosting the Railroad Festival this weekend. Boy, would I like to go.
On the farm, grass and calves are growing. Bill is doing most of the feeding and other chores. He has even begun mowing the grass and trimming limbs that dropped due to the ice.
It’s always nice to hear from Vallians from my rest home in Pope. Coming for a visit were Betty and Al Davis, and Janice Dollahite, who can pep up any day. Phone calls came from Jimmie and Brenda Marshall and Wanda and Bud McCluskey – they keep me up on the church and their chickens and other animals. The report on their chickens are always fun to hear. Also got many cards and notes. Thanks, to all of you for your prayers, and other remembrances.
