Police Make Meth Arrests

WATER VALLEY – The Water Valley Police Department made two drug arrests on Tuesday, April 5, in unrelated incidents. Chief Jason Mangrum reported James McCracken, 46, of Water Valley was charged with Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance during a traffic stop for improper equipment.
The arrest came after officers detected the odor of marijuana and upon further investigation located a pipe for smoking methamphetamine on McCracken. They also discovered methamphetamine in the vehicle. McCracken was booked in the Yalobusha County Detention Center (YCDC) and given a $40,000 bond.
Ashley Britt, 34, of Batesville was arrested by officers conducting a safety checkpoint for Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance. During the encounter officers located methamphetamine and paraphernalia in a bag after Britt told them where to look. She was booked in YCDC.
“We appreciate the Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Department for assisting our department with this arrest,” Mangrum added.
Other activity reported by the chief includes:
• Reginald Bratton, 45, of Water Valley was arrested for felony DUI during a safety checkpoint at the intersection of Jones and Stephens streets on April 9. Officers encountered Bratton at the checkpoint and determined he was under the influence of alcohol. Further investigation revealed Bratton had two previous DUI convictions, triggering the felony charge. He was booked in YCDC.
• Curtis Crow, age 25, of Water Valley was arrested on April 9 for DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Officers were investigating an unoccupied vehicle in the ditch on Wise Street near the Express Mart. During the investigation, officers determined that Crow was the driver and had left the scene of the crash. They also determined he was under the influence while operating the vehicle and he was subsequently arrested and booked in YCDC.
