REPORT TO THE PEOPLE
By Tommy Reynolds
District 33 Representative

Having served in the House of Representatives for 43 years, I can tell you that we’ve never been faced with a “problem” like we did during the 2022 session – the “problem” of having significant extra funds to help our communities. Thanks to the funds provided by the federal government, we were able to allocate monies from Federal ARP funds to various needed projects across our districts. I worked to make sure our local communities were beneficiaries of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The result is that in Yalobusha County we were able to receive $225,000 for the much-needed renovation of the Water Valley Civic Auditorium. As a Water Valley resident, I know the value of having a place where our community members can gather for large civic events.

Water Valley will also have $500,000 available to help with upgrades and improvements to the city’s electrical system. As we know, an unstable electrical system is something we simply cannot tolerate. I hope this monetary infusion will help keep our electrical service reliable and affordable.

Coffeeville can look forward to $125,000 to help on street improvements, and all of our municipalities can take advantage of funds we set aside so that cities and counties can apply for needed water and sewer improvements. The truth is that with modern technology and understandings of water/sewer issues, our city and county leaders can put this money to use in ways that should improve health concerns as well as system maintenance.

Each of us in the Legislature is charged with doing what is best for the State of Mississippi and that does include making sure our local citizens can see their tax investments at work for them.
