City Arrests Include DUIs, Aggravated Assault

WATER VALLEY – A Water Valley man was charged for DUI, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and no driver’s license after allegedly striking a pedestrian on Wagner Street Friday night.
Police Chief Jason Mangrum reported Alfred Pritchard, age 39, was arrested the following day after the victim was able to provide a description of the vehicle and driver. Pritchard was stopped on Thornton Street and taken into custody after providing information that he struck the victim with his side-view mirror and left the scene, triggering the charge for leaving the scene of an accident.
During the traffic stop officers also determined that Pritchard was under the influence of alcohol. He was booked into the Yalobusha County Detention Center.
Other activity reported by the chief includes:
• Jonathan Mims, age 32, of Oxford was arrested for possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle and an outstanding warrant from Yalobusha County on May 5. The arrest came after a patrolling officer noticed a vehicle stalled in the roadway and stopped to check on the driver. During the encounter, the officer located a small amount of marijuana and discoveredd the outstanding warrant.
• Lareco Lee, age 32, of Batesville was arrested for DUI Child Endangerment after officers were dispatched to a call reporting a reckless driver on South Main on April 30. The officers made contact with the vehicle on Blackmur Drive and initiated a traffic stop. During the stop, officers determined that Lee was under the influence and had small children in the vehicle.
“We appreciate the call from the concerned citizen. The information helped us take an intoxicated driver off the road,” Mangrum added.
• Darnell White, age 59, of Water Valley was arrested for aggravated assault with a weapon following an altercation with a city street department employee on Central Street on April 29. Witnesses reported White had a knife and was threatening the city employee, prompting the city employee to hold up a shovel for defense. The shovel was dropped to the ground and the city employee back away, when White picked up the shovel and struck the victim on the head. The victim was treated and released at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
John David Hardin, 34, of Water Valley was arrested at a safety checkpoint on Stephens Street on April 27 for DUI, second offense. Officers determined Hardin was had been drinking and further investigation revealed he was under the influence.
