The Water Valley Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in the area of Buena Vista and Daniels Drive Tuesday afternoon.
Water Valley Police Chief Jason Mangrum reported a juvenile was struck in the leg, sustaining minor injuries. The victim was treated and released at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. The chief said there is a person of interest in the shooting.
There was a strong police response in the area including Mangrum and city officers and Sheriff Jerimaine Gooch and deputies as the area was secured.
“We also called in a couple of off-duty officers to come back and help,” the chief told the Herald.
The victim was transported to Odom Rural Health Clinic in a private vehicle, where he was met by an ambulance and transported to Oxford.
“The investigation is ongoing, we are in the process of interviewing witnesses,” Mangrum added.
