Fundraiser Is Underway For High School Band

Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce President Rhonda Burchett presented a $500 donation to Water Valley High Band Director Wes Brown. The donation is for a fundraiser to replace well-worn drumline equipment (pictured). The equipment has been in use for over a decade.

WATER VALLEY – Water Valley High School Band Director Wes Brown has launched a fundraising campaign to make improvements for the band. Brown is in his second year as band director.

Last year under Brown’s leadership, the band earned Excellent Ratings in Marching and Sight-Reading Evaluations and a Superior Rating in Concert Evaluation. The Superior Rating is the highest rating a band can receive in a specific category, a rating the Water Valley Band had not received in over two decades. Other accolades in the last year include individual students who have been invited to and participated in highly esteemed Honor Bands throughout the state of Mississippi.

“I believe this band can go far in what they can archive in the near future,” Brown said. “However, the band is in urgent need of some of the resources that are required for a band to grow.”

Brown identified the drumline as one area where there is a need. The current drumline equipment has been in use for over a decade and needs to be replaced for the advancement of the band’s sound and health of the students. The cost of the upgrade is $9,000.
Brown is reaching out to the community for donations. You may donate either as an individual, a group or as a business. If you chose to contribute, you can send your donations to the front office of Water Valley High School, 550 Market Street, Water Valley, MS. Be sure to clarify the donation is for the Water Valley Band drumline.

“I hope you will join me in providing our students with the best equipment possible. Your donations, no matter the size, will be greatly appreciated and will make a difference in the lives of our students.
