ENID LAKE – The first fatality from a motor vehicle accident in Yalobusha County in 2023 was recorded on January when a Memphis man was killed on I-55 near the Enid exit in a four-vehicle crash.
Yalobusha County Coroner Ronnie Stark reported Dennis L. Mudbone, 75, was fatally injured in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Mississippi Highway Patrol reported Mudbone was driving a 2001 Jeep Laredo northbound on I-55 just after noon when a Dodge Charger driven by 42-year old Glen E. Bess of Waynesville, Mo. hit the Jeep from behind. The collision caused Mudbone’s Jeep to cross into the opposing lane of the interstate, where it collided with a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2013 Nissan Rogue.
A passenger in the Nissan Rogue, Eli K. McIntyre, 19, received moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Agencies responding to the crash included the highway patrol, Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Department, Yalobusha County Coroner, Yalobusha County EMS and Oakland and Tillatoba fire departments.
The crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
