Rockette Is Final Candidate To Qualify

WATER VALLEY – A final candidate seeking to run for a county office submitted qualifying paperwork last Wednesday, the deadline to qualify to run for county and state positions. Terry Rockette qualified as a Democrat for Chancery Clerk and will run against independent candidate Donald Gray in the November General Election.

Rockette’s entry brings the total tally of candidates running for county offices to 21 and five contested races.

Other contested races in the county include:
• Sheriff – Independent incumbent Jerimaine Gooch and Republican candidate Roger Pollan will be on the Nov. 7 General Election ballot.
• District 2 Supervisor – Incumbent Kenneth Rogers, John Perkins and Demetrius Armstrong are all running on the Democratic ticket and will run in the Democratic Primary Election on August.
• Tax Assessor/Collector – Brad Willingham and Michael Walton qualified as independent candidates and will be on the Nov. 7 ballot.
• District 1 Constable – Democrat incumbent Ralph Horton and independent candidate J. Caleb Horton will be on the Nov. 7 ballot.

Incumbent qualifiers in the county who are unopposed include:
• Daryl Burney (independent) – Circuit Clerk ;
• Ronnie Stark (independent) – Coroner;
• Gail Barton (Democrat) – Prosecuting Attorney;
• Randy Simmons (independent) – District 2 Constable;
• Janet Caulder (independent) – District 1 Justice Court Judge;
• Trent Howell (independent) – District 2 Justice Court Judge;
• Cayce Washington (independent) – District 1 Supervisor;
• Kenneth Harmon (independent) – District 3 Supervisor;
• Eddie Harris (Democrat) – District 4 Supervisor; and
• Gaylon Gray (Democrat) – District 5 Supervisor.
