Lady Devils Defeats Lake Cormorant, Loses To Calhoun City In Tournament
WATER VALLEY – The Water Valley High School softball team is 2 -2 on the season after winning one and losing one in the Lady Devil Tournament Saturday. The action started in dense, misty rain as the Lady Devils took the field against the Calhoun City Wildcats and struggled at the plate, recording only two hits against the Wildcats in the 11 – 0 loss.
The Wildcats jumped on the Lady Devils early, taking a two-run lead in the first inning, adding two more in the second and then extending their lead to 11 by the end of the third and final inning. Molly Embry and Cora Story recorded the hits by the Lady Devils, and Trynaidee’ Walton added a walk.
It was a different story in game two against Lake Cormorant, as the Water Valley team took the field for an almost perfect first inning, allowing only one hit. In the bottom of the inning, the Lady Devils recorded three runs and two stolen bases to take a 3 – 0 lead. Kee Neely added a run on a sacrifice from Bailey Terry in the second inning. The Lady Devils’ bats came alive in the third, recording six hits and six RBIs to close the game with a 10 – 0 victory.
Key offensive performances came from Maddie Adams (1-4, double, 3 RBIs), Baylie Terry (1-3, double, RBI), Trynaidee’ Walton (2-3, 2 walks, double, RBI), Molly Embry (2-3, stolen base, walk), Bri Parrish (2-4, 2 RBIs), and Cora Story (1 -3, Run Scored, Walk).
The Offensive Player of the Games was Maddie Adams and the Defensive Player of the Games was Baylie Terry
In last week’s action on Feb. 23 against J.Z. George, the Lady Devils defeated the Lady Tigers, 16 – 0, in three innings. The Lady Devils were led with the leather from Defensive Player of the Game, Cora Story, who had two total chances with zero errors, a put-out and an assist. The team completed the clean defensive performance by finishing the contest with zero errors behind the a strong pitching performance from Bri Parrish. She allowed only two hits, recording five strikeouts and two walks.
The Lady Devils exploded in the bottom of the first inning, scoring seven runs on nine hits and a walk, and finished the game going 19 – 22 at the plate as a team. They had six doubles, a triple, three walks, 15 RBIs, 16 runs scored, seven stolen bases and zero strikeouts.
The hitting parade of the Lady Devils was led by Offensive Player of the Game, Trynaidee’ Walton. She went 2-2 with a double, triple and a walk, an RBI and three runs scored. Other multi-hit performances included Maddie Adams (2-2, two doubles and 2 RBIs), Baylie Terry (3-3, 1 double, two RBIs, one stolen base), Belle Belcher, (3-3, three RBIs, one stolen base), Molly Embry (2-3, three RBIs, one stolen base), Bri Parrish (2-3), and Cora Story (3-3, one double, two RBIs). Maggie Hill added a hit, along with 3 RBIs and a stolen base. Kee Neely was also involved with a hit, a walk and a stolen base.
