WATER VALLEY – The Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce presented the Business Spotlight Award to Hometown Pizza on Friday, June 20. First introduced by the Chamber in 2016, this award recognizes business and individuals that demonstrate exceptional commitment to the community.
Hometown Pizza opened in 2014, and has served as a community hub with entertainment, delicious food and friendly service for almost a decade. Owned by Greg Segroves and Penneye Holder, the menu includes pizza, subs, spaghetti, lasagna, pasta, an amazing salad bar, one of the town’s best hamburgers, wings Sunday plate lunch and other favorites. The lineup also includes karaoke on Friday nights and live music most Saturday nights, a testament to Greg’s lifelong love of rock and roll music.
Assistant General Manager Michanda Givens reports that the restaurant employs 16 workers counting full-time and part-time. Givens also shared that they are a family-oriented business with fun events including trivia, bingo and kids nights.
“I love seeing a kid on the stage singing,” Greg said.
Givens said the work crew is also like a big family.
“A dysfunctional family, but a family,” she joked.
The idea of opening a Hometown Pizza franchise came from Penneye’s sister and father, who operated a successful one in Baldwyn. After identifying the potential franchise they wanted, the search began for the right location in the right town. That hunt took almost a year, before the opportunity to purchase an existing pizza place in Water Valley.
Admittedly Greg had little experience operating a restaurant and the learning curve was substantial, especially during the early months and years. They survived a rush that lasted for months when the doors first opened on Sept. 26, 2014. A decade later and many of those customers remain regulars and are an inspiration to Greg.
Located at 407 N. Main, Hometown Pizza is open seven days a week.
