Hope everyone has had a great week. I’ve been crazy busy. We made two trips to Indiana this past week. My mom’s uncle was sick and passed away, and we went to be with family. I won’t be complaining about our winter anymore, that’s for sure. It was snowy and cold. I was upset about missing Christmas in the Valley and the parade. I saw on Facebook that it was a pretty good turnout.
I’ve been glad to be back home though. I hate that I’ve missed a couple of articles. Emily turned 18 while we were in Indiana. We took her up to Michigan just to say we’ve been and went out to eat. It was great spending time with my northern family, although it was for sad reasons.
Bro. Grant Coffey brought a great message Sunday morning. We all tend to say things that we really shouldn’t. How many of us have said things like someone wouldn’t amount to anything, or it can’t get any worse? My favorite has always been, “If it wasn’t for bad luck, I wouldn’t have any luck.” Things like this can bring curses on ourselves. The tongue is a powerful weapon. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue …” What we say matters. Jesus tells us in Matthew 15:11 that what comes out of our mouth is what defiles us. The things we say corrupt us.
Why? Death and life are in the power of the tongue. We need to take control of our tongues. James 3:8 says no man can tame the tongue; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. We have to ask for help through the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 4:29-31 gives us explicit directions on taming our tongues. It tells us what should and should not come out of our mouths. What we say matters. We’re quick to spread gossip, but shy away from saying Amen in church. Matthew 12:34-37 says in the day of judgment we will answer for what we’ve said. We will be justified or condemned by what we’ve said. What we say is so important that God is going to ask about it. What we say matters. Speak goodness over your family, over your friends.
This was such a great message to hear. So many of us are negative Nancys. We need to be more positive. Speak good things into existence and thank God for it while you claim it. If you’re looking for a home church, we invite you to join us. Services start at 11 a.m.
