Eunice Wayne Brasher Collier

WATER VALLEY – Eunice Wayne Brasher Collier, age 91, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010, in the Yalobusha County Nursing Home at Water Valley.

    Born in Water Valley, Mrs. Collier was a daughter of the late William Lawrence and Nora Barber Brasher. She was a homemaker who loved her family and enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, and sewing. Mrs. Collier was a member of O’Tuckolofa Baptist Church.

    The funeral service was held at two o’clock in the afternoon in O’Tuckolofa Baptist Church with Bro. Dan Dickerson officiating. Burial was in Mt. Liberty Cemetery in Calhoun County with Billy Stark, Charles Heath, Horace Hardy, Eddie Foster, Don Peeples, and Bob Williams serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Kimzey and Junior Babb. Seven Oaks Funeral Home of Water Valley had charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Collier is survived by one grandchild, Lisa Kay (Michael) Bryant; one great-grandchild, Lisa Cheyene Bryant; and her daughter-in-law, Patsy Miller, all of Banner.

    She was preceded in death by her husbands, O. L. “Tot” Ashmore, Luron Miles, and Bernice “Shorty” Collier; a son, Billy Wayne Ashmore; and a brother, Dewel Brasher, Sr.

Steven Allen Cox

COFFEEVILLE – Steven Allen Cox, 47, of Coffeeville died at his home July 11, 2010.

    Born in Memphis, Mr. Cox was a son of the late Ralph and Shirley Cauthen Cox. He worked at Martin Brothers in Sardis and was a welder and maintenance worker. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

    Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 15, at eleven o’clock in the morning in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home at Water Valley with Bro. Don Roberson officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will take place in Drew Cemetery at Drew.

    Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Cox (Dwayne) Byford of Coffeeville; two sons, Steven Allen Cox, Jr. of Coffeeville and Tripp Cox of Clarksdale; a sister, Debra (Hershell) Ross of Clarksdale; two brothers, Kevin Cox and Michael Cox, both of Clarksdale; and six grandchildren.

Randal Hugh Faust

JACKSON – Randal Hugh Faust, a native of Covington, Louisiana, but now a resident of Jackson, passed away in the early morning hours of June 21, 2010.

    He was the father of Brandon, BreAnna, and Nicholas Faust of Water Valley. The family states that he will truly be missed and to rest in peace Randy.


D.E. Pierce

SOUTHAVEN – D. E. Pierce, Jr., 78, died July 9, 2010.

    He was a store manager for Mapco Express.

    The funeral service was held at ten o’clock in the morning Tuesday, July 13, in the Hernando Funeral Home. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

    He leaves his wife, Charlotte Pierce of Southaven; a daughter, Kim Pierce Snow (Jeff) of Southaven; a sister, Patsy Pierce of Southaven; brothers, Henry Pierce of Senatobia, Albert Pierce of Haleyville, Ala, Roy Pierce of Southaven; and a grandson, Jake Snow of Southaven.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Dudie and Ruth Pierce, a sister, Janie Quay Pierce, and a brother, Elbert Ray Pierce.

 
Loretta and Clyde Saylor

WATER VALLEY – Burial services for Loretta Catherine Daum Salyer and Clyde Nathan Salyer, husband and wife for 64 years, were held Thursday, July 8, 2010, in the Palestine Cemetery at Water Valley. Rev. Barry Dickenson conducted the service.

    Mrs. Salyer (Rett to all her family and friends) of Dorris, Calif. passed away November, 2008, and Mr. Salyer (Clyde to all his family and friends), also of Dorris, where the two resided together for many years, with neighboring children, passed away last year (2009) and joined his wife on their journey to be with the Lord and the many loved friends that have gone before them in the heavens above.

    Surviving the loving couple are their children, Sandra L. Salyer Peck of Johnston, Colorado, Terral (Terry) N. Salyer, Judy Salyer McKown, Margaret I. (Missy) Salyer Oman, all three of Dorris, Calif., and Richard (Ricky) Salyer of Downey, Calif.; sisters, of Mrs. Salyer, Dorothy M. Daum Steele of Marrero, La., Jane L. Daum Blackburn of Tallahassee, Fla., and Margaret (Peggy) Daum Pohorence, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and her only surviving brother, Gerald D. (Jerry) Daum of Water Valley.

     The Salyors and their young family resided in Water Valley in the early 1950s. Rett was a housewife, caring for her children and home, as her husband, Clyde, traveled a several state area working for Memphis based Taylor Paper Company. During that time they made many lifetime relative and friend relationships, that joined the remaining Salyer and Daum families at the services held at Palestine.

    Later that evening Jerry and Margaret Daum, brother and sister-in-law to the deceased couple, hosted a dinner for all family members and caring friends. The entire two families express eternal gratitude to all who came to celebrate the lives of this couple. Attending were: Kathy Steele, niece, of Slidell, La.; Dot Steele, sister, of Marrero, La.; Jane Blackburn, sister, of Tallahassee, Fla.; Bob and Sandra Peck, daughter and son-in-law of Johnston,  Co.; Tom and Judy McKown, daughter and son-in-law, of Dorris, Calif.; Terry Salyer, son, of Dorris, Calif.; Peggy Pohorence, sister, of Blairsville, Ga.; Michael Steele, nephew, of Morrero, La., Kelly Steele, nephew, of Harvey, La., Don and Patty Blackburn, nephew and wife, of Tallahasse, Fla; Dr. and Mrs. Rayford Edgar, Ray and Steve Cox, all of Water Valley.


Ruth Collins Walker

WATER VALLEY – Ruth Collins Walker, age 88, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010, in Yalobusha County at the nursing home at Water Valley.

    Born in Bay, Ark., she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Minnie Bell Bailey Collins. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking. Mrs. Walker was a food service supervisor at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis and was involved in many capacities of food service. She was a member of Sylva Rena Baptist Church.

    The funeral service was held at two o’clock in the afternoon, Sunday, July 11, in Seven Oaks Funeral Home Chapel at Water Valley, with Bro. James West officiating. Burial was in Walker Cemetery in Yalobusha County with Lynn Walker, Randy Walker, Benny Collins, Andy Morris, and Jerry Gardiner serving as pallbearers.

    Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Hall of Nesbit; two sons, Bailey (Linda) Walker and Richard (Malinda) Walker, both of Water Valley; one sister, Mildred Person of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, Debbie (Dalton) Rogers, Steve (Lynne) Walker, Shane Walker, Melanie (Carl) Ziegenmeyer, Jeff Walker, Sharia (Jeff) Lipscomb, Aimee Becklin; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Walker in 1990, a son-in-law, Sam Hall, a sister, Pearl Holland, and three brothers, Earl Collins, Everett Collins, and Q. T. Collins.
