Maggie L. Caldwell
GARY, Ind. – Mrs. Maggie L. Caldwell died July 18, 2010 in Gary, Ind.
The funeral service was held at eleven o’clock in the morning Saturday, July 24, in Calvary Institutional Missionary Baptist Church with Isaiah J. Murray, pastor/teacher, officiating. Eulogist was De’Wan M. Bynum, pastor/teacher, of Christian Valley M.B. Church.
Born April 13, 1926, in Water Valley, Maggie L. Caldwell was affectionately known as “Magg.” She was a daughter of the late Willie “Bud’ Love and Lottie Lee Love Wright. She confessed a belief in Christ at an early age at Spring Hill North Missionary Baptist Church at Water Valley, under the leadership of Pastor Spakes. She was united in holy matrimony to Eugene Caldwell on November 11, 1947 and to this union five daughters were born. The family moved to Gary, Ind. in 1954, where they united with Calvary Institutional M.B. Church. She served as a member of the Senior Usher Board and as a booster for the Male Chorus until her health failed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Caldwell, a daughter, Brenda (Baby Bren) Caldwell, and her grandson, Edward Bibbs.
Left to cherish her memory are: four daughters, Betty J. Bibbs (L. B.) of Benton Harbor, Mich., Michelle Caldwell Bynum (Keith) of Merrillville, Ind., Joyce Marie Caldwell and Carol A. Caldwell Bryant, both of Gary, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lucille Robinson and Martha Woodard, both of Water Valley, Clotee Love of Chicago, and Mary Eliza Barton of Louisville, Ky.; two brothers, Bennie W. and J. W. Love, both of Water Valley; two sisters-in-law, Minnie L. Caldwell of Benton Harbor, and Ellarine Ellis of Crawfordsville, Ind.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Paula Roberson Hall
WATER VALLEY – Paula Roberson Hall, age 63, died Friday, July 30, 2010 at Community Hospice in Tupelo.
Born October 30, 1946, in Water Valley, Ms. Hall was a retired office manager of Yalobusha General Hospital in Water Valley.
Ms. Hall made all funeral arrangements prior to her death and upon her request there was no visitation. A graveside service was held in Oak Hill Cemetery Tuesday, August 3, at ten o’clock in the morning, with Bro. James Taylor officiating. Seven Oaks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Hall is survived by one son, William Kevin Hall, and his wife, Denise; and three grandchildren, Tyler, Trey, and Trent, all of Bruce.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Paul and Lucille Holt Roberson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Darlington Oaks Community Hospice, P. O. Box 333, Sherman, MS 38869.

Lillian Inman Neal
WATER VALLEY – Lillian Inman Neal, age 89, died Saturday, July 31, 2010, at her home in Water Valley.
Born June 1, 1921 in Calhoun County, Mrs. Neal was a daughter of the late Rudolfus and Myrtle Mays Inman. She was a retired seamstress for Big Yank Corp. of Water Valley. Mrs. Neal enjoyed quilting and canning. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Water Valley, a former member of the Young at Heart and the TEL Sunday School Class. She always looked forward to the home Sunday School classes.
The funeral service was held in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home at two o’clock in the afternoon Tuesday, August 3, with Dr. Randy Bain officiating. Burial was in the Bruce Cemetery with Chevy Crocker, Tony Rogers, Chris Pullen, Stewart Spence, Donnie Crocker, and Casey Hart serving as pallbearers. Toy Neal, Billy Neal, Tyler Rogers, Bubba Jackson, Kyle Spence, and Brady Dickey were honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Neal is survived by two daughters, Jeanette (Joe) Dickey and Judy (Herbie) Rogers, both of Water Valley; two sons, Harry (Donna) Neal of Winona and Laborn (Johnnie) Neal of Augusta, Ga.; two brothers, Gene Inman of San Diego, Calif. and Robert (Maxine) Inman of Arlington, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Neal in 1978; one son, Charles Benny Neal, Sr. in 2001; and three brothers, Woody Inman, Paul Inman, and James Inman.

Mattie Dawkins Shaw
COFFEEVILLE – Mrs. Mattie Dawkins Shaw, 102, of Coffeeville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 29, 2010, in the Yalobusha County Nursing Home at Water Valley.
Mrs. Shaw was a member of First Baptist Church in Coffeeville. She was born May 27, 1908, in Yalobusha County and was a daughter of the late Thomas Hosea Henry Mayhew McSwaine Dawkins and Nancy Emma-line Harbour Dawkins.
The funeral service was held Saturday, July 31, at three o’clock in the afternoon in First Baptist Church at Coffeeville, with Rev. Truman Scarborough and Rev. Rick Glidewell officiating. Interment followed in the Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery in Yalobusha County.
Survivors include a son, former Yalobusha County Tax Assessor Guy Dale Shaw; daughters, Mary Charlene Torbert (Bob) of Nashville, Tenn. and Dorothy Nan Rickett of Columbus; nine grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, former Yalobusha County Tax Assessor Guy C. Shaw; a daughter, Mattie Laucene Clements; grandchildren, Diane Adele Shaw and Guy Andrew (Andy) Shaw; a sister, Mary D. Fielder (Bill); brothers, Harmon Dawkins (Pearl) and Hosea Dawkins (Mary).
Pallbearers were Billy Dean Fielder, Jim Waddell, Dave Hovey, Rob Torbert, Jim Stafford and Bubba Shaw. Honorary pallbearers were Tom Dawkins, Charles Dawkins, William Fielder, Mark Torbert, and Mike Clements.
Garner-Harper Funeral Home of Coffeeville was entrusted with arrangements.
Robert Lee Smith
WATER VALLEY – Robert Lee Smith, age 85, died Thursday, July 29, 2010, at his home in Water Valley.
Born in Memphis, he was a son of the late Robert Lee Smith, Sr. and Jessie Lee Sandridge Smith. He was a steel and iron worker in Memphis and also worked for Lyles Gas Company. Mr. Smith was a mason and a member of the VFW of Water Valley.
The funeral service was held in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home at two o’clock in the afternoon Saturday, July 31, with Bro. Sam Gossett officiating. Burial was in Mt. Liberty Cemetery in Calhoun County.
Mr. Smith is survived by two daughters, Barbara Smith Palmertree of Lafayette County and Brenda Faye Gossett of Oxford; one son, Larry Lee Smith of Lafayette County; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lila Fay Simpson Smith; one son, Robert Garry Smith; two sisters and two brothers.
