WATER VALLEY – The Water Valley School board started their November monthly meeting on Nov. 16 with recognition of several students and faculty members. The praise for various achievements has become a familiar theme for the school board as a gesture of appreciation.

High school principal Stephanie Tallant was recognized for achieving National Board Certification. Superin-tendent Dr. Michael McInnis reported her attainment of this honor reflects her expertise in her field.

At Davidson Elementary School, three employees were honored for their dedication to education. The group includes Lisa Dettor, a special education teacher who always shows compassion and humility when working with students and staff; Annie Gooch, a custodian who goes above and beyond exceeding her job requirements to help make DES a better place to work; and Leigh Ann Richardson, a first grade teacher’s assistant with a strong work ethic.

Students at DES recognized included Dorian Pomerlee, Cora Story and Bethany Pryor, as first place winners in their grades in an essay contest during Red Ribbon Week last month.

Other business conducted at the meeting included:

• Approved a donation for the 50K in 50 days fundraiser in the amount of $21,459.

“I understand we have a little more trickling in,” Trusty added. “Thank you to the entire community for that.”

• Heard a financial report from business officer Randy Goodwin.

• Approved a BETA club trip to Gatlinburg, Tenn.

• Entered executive session to discuss a personnel issue, a resignation of a teacher.

• Also discussed ongoing roof problems at the gym. Goodwin reported repairs were made on the roof a week before the meeting. Options discussed included installing a Duro-last brand roof, or putting a metal roof on the facility.
