COFFEEVILLE – The inmate count in the county jail continues to swell following the arrests of three Coffeeville men charged in another homicide in the county.
Lakedrick Spearman, 26, of Coffeeville; Zavion Spearman, 21, also of Coffeeville; and Anthony Spearman, Jr., 26, of Water Valley were each arrested within hours after Chauncey Armstrong was gunned down in broad daylight on Kennedy Street in Coffeeville Thursday afternoon, March 30. The Coffeeville Police Department and Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Department are lead agencies in the ongoing investigation. Sheriff Jerimaine Gooch and Coffeeville Police Chief Terrence Turner reported tips from the public helped link the suspects to the shooting and provide information about the location of two of the suspects after they fled from the county. Zavion Spearman turned himself in at the Coffeeville Police Department just after midnight Friday morning. Lakedrick Spearman and Anthony Spearman were apprehended in Lafayette County .
“We got a tip they were at a hotel in Oxford,” Turner reported. “But they left the hotel before officers could get to their location.
Anthony Spearman was arrested at a convenience store on Hwy 7 south of Oxford at 7:52 p.m. after Lafayette County deputies observed his vehicle. Lakedrick Spearman was arrested following a traffic stop on West Jackson Avenue at 12:18 a.m. Friday morning.
Chief Turner and Sheriff Gooch listed the supporting agencies as the U.S. Marshals, Lafayette County Metro Narcotics Unit, Oxford Police Department, Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and the Water Valley Police Department. Assistance ranged from helping with crowd control in the aftermath of the shooting to locating and arresting the two suspects who fled.
“We applaud all of the law enforcement agencies involved, with their assistance we were able to get these suspects behind bars,” Turner and Gooch stated Friday afternoon in a press conference with the North Mississippi Herald and Coffeeville Courier.
Turner reported Lakedrick Spearman and Zavion Spearman are brothers. Anthony Spearman is a cousin to the brothers. He also said the Coffeeville Police Department and Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Department had multiple prior encounters with Anthony Spearman.
“This is still an ongoing investigation. We urge anyone who has any information about this case or any other cases to reach out to law enforcement,” Gooch stressed.
