This week was bittersweet as I finished out my Blue Devil athletic career at the Girls Golf State Tournament. Water Valley athletics have been a major part of my life since before I even entered junior high. As a kid, I spent most nights at the Blue Devil Baseball field watching my older brother play. I attended the track meets, basketball games, and cross country meets all throughout elementary school. Even from a young age, I was no stranger to cheering on the Devils!
While it is a little sad to see my time as a Lady Devil come to an end, I am so grateful for each and every moment and plan to continue to cheer on my Devils in the future as an alumni.
The Lady Devils Golf team finished our season this week at the state tournament on April 24 and 25 at Dogwoods Golf Course in Grenada. The girls placed 10th in the Class 3A/4A State Tournament. The team shot a two-day total of 409, led by Chloe Clement placing 16th individually, Ashlyn Darby placing 18th, Carlee Jackson placing 30th and Summer Webb placing 49th. This season for the Lady Devils was defined by hard work, perseverance and growth. The girls not only grew as a team, but also grew as individual golfers. I can say personally that over these past four years I have learned so many things about golf, but I learned even more about the value of my character. The Water Valley Golf program has given me memories that I will forever cherish and helped make me who I am today. As frustrating as the game can be, I am really going to miss walking the course in my Blue and White!

The Girls Golf team (left to right) Coach Michael Howland, Summer Webb, Carlee Jackson, Bethany Pryor, Ashlyn Darby, Chloe Clement, and Coach Avery Norris finished out their season at the state tournament on April 25.
The Blue Devil baseball team competed in the first round of playoffs last week. On April 25th, the team traveled to Humphreys County, taking a loss of four to two. The team then hosted Humphreys County at home on April 26, winning nine to two. The final game was on April 29, and the Blue Devils won, securing their spot in the second round of playoffs.
The Lady Devils also competed in the first round of playoffs taking on Winona. The girls won the game with a final score of 21 to five and headed to the second round of playoffs. The team took on Booneville in a double header for the second round on April 28, resulting in two losses to end their season.
Water Valley High School released their Who’s Who this past month. Students from each grade nominate and vote for their peers for different categories such as class favorite, most athletic, and most likely to brighten someone’s day, all featured in the yearbook.
Seniors also vote on Mr. and Ms. WVHS and freshmen vote on Mr. and Ms. WVJH. Saveon Freeman and Chloe Clement were named Mr. and Ms. WVHS and Channing Freeman and Joniyah Benson were voted Mr. and Ms. WVJH. Who’s Who is a fun way for students to vote for their friends and be featured in the yearbook!
As the weeks continue to dwindle down, I am reminded of how much I will miss WVHS and all that comes with being a Blue Devil.
It is important that we, as students, take in these last few moments of the school year and make them count!
