COFFEEVILLE – Almost 100 people attended a meeting Thursday in the Multi-Purpose Building in Coffeeville as representatives with TVIfiber provided an update on the fiber-optic broadband deployment project in Yalobusha County.
TVIfiber, Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association’s (TVEPA) broadband subsidiary, started construction on the final phase of its fiber-optic broadband deployment project in March, 2022. The final phase includes all areas in Yalobusha County that are located in TVEPA’s coverage area.
During Thursday’s meeting, company representatives reported that construction has started in the Coffeeville area with a goal of having broadband service available to all TVEPA members in that area by September.
Last month TVIfiber announced the first service area in the county had been activated. A portion of the county south and east of Water Valley is available for the company’s broadband service starting April 14. On April 26, TVIfiber reported a second area west of Water Valley is also active.
TVEPA customers can go to tvifiber.com and click on “Check Your Availability” to see if your area is active. Customers will be prompted to selected desired internet and/or phone service, create a new customer account, and select a date on the provided calendar to schedule an in-home installation.
TVEPA’s efforts to provide world-class broadband and telephone service began in 2019 as it became Mississippi’s first electric cooperative to begin the process of bringing fiber to the home, through TVIfiber, for its nine-county service area. The company has received over $40 million in funding to provide fiber-optic broadband internet service. The funding includes a $16 million grant through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Reconnect Program, $20 million from the Federal Communications Commission’s Rural Digital Opportunity Fund and $4.5 million from CARES act money that flowed through the state.
