This week was a busy one for Water Valley High School! Students were all over the place trying to get from one event to the next. State championships, playoffs, test prep and prom were all a part of making this week exceptionally wild.
The boys golf team finished out their season by competing in the State Championship at Sunkist Golf Course in Biloxi on May 1 and 2, finishing eighth overall. The boys golf program is saying goodbye to three senior leaders on the team: Walker Tedford, Andrew Paysinger, and Brady Hill. These seniors not only led the team with low scores throughout their years as Blue Devil Golfers, but also led with their character. They will be greatly missed in the golf program!
The Blue Devil baseball team played in the second round of playoffs this week against Independence. The boys traveled to Independence on May 2, resulting in a loss for the Devils. The team then had to battle to win the next two games and advance to the third round. They faced Independence two more times bringing home a win in both games and punching their ticket to the third round of playoffs against Amory. The team will give it all they have as they continue on in the third round.
The junior class members had a two-day boot camp in preparation for their U.S. History State Test. Juniors were split into groups and divided to different classrooms to study and prepare for the state test. This boot camp allowed juniors to review standards that they had learned this school year and study questions that will be similar to the state test questions.
“Although boot camp was stressful, it was very beneficial and I appreciate Coach Daniels for giving us the opportunity to get extra help before the state test,” Miah Robinson stated. Boot camp may not have been the most fun activity for students, but it definitely paid off in the end.
Seniors and juniors enjoyed prom on May 6 at the Powerhouse in Oxford. The event is hosted by the senior parents, for some reason, the school no longer sponsors prom. The senior parents stepped up this year, making prom the best one yet! We danced the night away making memories with friends at the photo booth and 360 photo machine.
Students also voted for prom king and queen during the dance. Saveon Freeman was named prom king and Cora Story was named prom queen. For the seniors, prom is one of the last events spent together before graduation. It was a night of soaking in final memories together as Blue Devils.
The school year is rapidly approaching a close! The weeks are going by so quickly and before we know it, the 2023 school year will be over! I am thankful for final moments like baseball games and prom to soak it all in!
