An Oxford man driving this Dodge pickup was killed when he struck another vehicle head-on on a bridge on Hwy. 7 south of Coffeeville. The wreck occurred on July 6 and the highway was closed for over an hour.
COFFEEVILLE – A 38 year-old Oxford man was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Hwy 7 on July 6. Yalobusha County Coroner Ronnie Stark reported Derrick Williams died from blunt force trauma to the head.
The wreck occurred south of Coffeeville at 3:51 p.m. after Williams’ truck collided head-on with a heavy-duty farm truck. A third vehicle was also damaged. Hwy. 7 was closed for over an hour after the wreck.
Stark reported a medevac helicopter responded and landed in the highway to transport Williams, but he was not stable enough to fly. The helicopter crew assisted the ground crew as Williams was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Grenada. Williams was pronounced dead at the hospital at 5:50 p.m.
Roberts and Sons Mortuary in Winona is in charge of funeral arrangements for Williams. Arrangements were incomplete at presstime.
