Once again, the Blue Devils have managed to make it through another fantastic week! With all of the sports activities, student gatherings, and testing going on simultaneously, many students are experiencing some tension, but so far, Water Valley High is continuing the school spirit!
With basketball season slowly approaching, the boys’ basketball team has decided this is the perfect time to take a brief break from basketball and have a team bonding day in place of practice. The boys used this opportunity to step outside of their usual sport and engage in a bit of flag football.
With their regular (blue and white) practice teams, the guys divided up and took on the fun of another sport. Each team worked hard to advance their score, but the blue team came out on top with a final winning score of 35-21.
The volleyball team has also come out on top with their team victory against the MS Palmer Dragons, leaving the opposing teams in despair as it was their senior night. The Lady Devils wrapped up their district play with a road win and will continue to travel throughout the remainder of the season.
The varsity volleyball team will go into the first round of playoffs this Saturday as they travel to Sebastopol to take on the Bobcats! Wish the varsity volleyball team good luck in the playoffs.
The Water Valley High School marching band traveled to the Northeast Mississippi community college’s annual marching band festival this past Saturday. They set out from the high school at approximately 6 a.m. to compete at the annual showcase.
This festival is in preparation for the upcoming competition that will take place at Grenada High School this Saturday. The Northeast competition allows band members the opportunity to a “practice round” before the MHSAA (Mississippi High School Activities Association) band evaluation, where they will be compared to other high school bands within Mississippi.
They will receive a ranking based on their overall performance. The scoring is based on a multitude of judges. Each judge ranks the bands from all aspects, such as marching ability, sound production, color guard, etc. The judges come together and make a final number score – one through five (one being superior, five being poor). The band did fairly well this past Saturday, receiving an overall score of three. Community, come out and support the Blue Devil marching band as they compete for this Saturday, the 7, at Grenada High School.

The F.C.A. (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) held their annual “See you at the pole” morning meeting from 7 to 8 a.m.
Aside from sports, the F.C.A. (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) held their annual “See you at the pole” morning meeting from seven to eight a.m. This is a time when students unite at the flagpole in front of Water Valley High for a time of prayer and vulnerability. The F.C.A. leaders led the gathering with dedicated speeches introducing the topic, songs of worship, and many breakout prayer sessions.
Focusing on prayer, different topics to pray over were shared with the group. These topics included a prayer for yourself and your families, one for our country and leaders, and last but not least, a prayer dedicated to Water Valley and school members. The gathering ended with students bonding over the love of Jesus Christ and a delightful donut to jumpstart their morning. The F.C.A. leaders are doing a wonderful job of sharing the Word of Christ. Keep up the miraculous work!
Along with all of the school activities keeping the Water Valley High students busy, do not think they are too busy for good grades and academic achievements. It was announced last week that the Water Valley School District and High School has been rated an overall “B” in the 2022-2023 Mississippi Accountability Model for the second year in a row. Congratulations on another year of learning and a high ranking. A special thanks to not only all of the students but also the teachers, administrators and everyone who helps Water Valley schools advance.
The Blue Devils had a chaotic week, but they are making sure to keep up the excellent work. Next week, they will be rewarded with a well-awaited fall break! This concludes your weekly update right from within the walls of the Blue and White!
