James Doyle “Buddy” Durr

WATER VALLEY – James Doyle “Buddy” Durr, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed from this life on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at the age of 67. He was born on September 15, 1956, in Belzoni to the late James Durr and Annie (Smith) Durr.

Buddy was a dedicated family man who valued his loved ones above all else. He leaves behind a profound legacy of love and strength. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Durr; his children, Jeremy Fuller, Hollie Bell, and Waid (Brandi) Durr; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, with one on the way; one sister, Audrey Mason; three nephews; and one niece.

Being an industrious individual, Buddy graduated from Humphrey’s Academy in Belzoni and continued his education at Mississippi Delta Community College where he would receive a degree in electronics. He then pursued a career in radio and television repair and owned his own repair shop in Belzoni. Later Buddy would dive off into the oil and gas industry, working diligently in the maintenance field for Columbia Gulf Gas Company for 30- plus years until his retirement.

Buddy had a passion for archery and achieved remarkable success as a pro archery shooter, earning numerous titles throughout his career including three world championships, 15 national titles, 41 top five national finishes, and 10 state titles. His love for the sport led him to establish the first archery club in Belzoni where he shared his love of archery to others, drawing numerous young people to a new hobby. Buddy also enjoyed hunting, golfing, and working in his yard. Buddy was a member of the southern senior golf association. He relished in sharing stories of his accomplishments but was equally eager to highlight the achievements of his children and grandchildren, whom he celebrated with immense pride.

In his community, James was known for his altruistic nature and willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need, even serving his church on the security team. He selflessly assisted others, leaving a lasting impression on all whose lives he touched.

Visitation was held on Monday, October 16, from 1 to 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Water Valley. The memorial service immediately followed at 2 p.m. with Dr. Randy Bain officiating. A graveside service was held in the Caile Cemetery on Tuesday, October 17, at 2 p.m. Seven Oaks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

In this time of deep sorrow, may we find solace in the memories and legacy of Buddy. His spirit will forever resonate amongst us, reminding us of the importance of family, perseverance, and compassion.

Jimmie Kid Martin Harbour

COFFEEVILLE – Jimmie Kid Martin Harbour, 89, of Coffeeville, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Providence Assisted Living in Grenada.

She was born October 3, 1934 in Coffeeville to Allie and Mary Dasma Donaldson Martin. Jimmie Kid was a member of Elam Baptist Church in Coffeeville and faithfully attended the Coffeeville United Methodist Church as long as her health allowed. She worked as the bookkeeper for the Yalobusha County Co-Op for over 35 years before working in the Yalobusha County Tax Assessor’s Office. Additionally, she also owned and operated Harbour Tax Service in Coffeeville for over 30 years. Jimmie Kid possessed a strong work ethic and a caring heart. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, October 19 at the Coffeeville United Methodist Church with Dr. Jimmy Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Harbour Cemetery. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service Thursday at the Coffeeville United Methodist Church.

Pallbearers will be Hayden Harbour, Will Hill, William Jeffreys, Brent Johnson, Spencer Martin and David Overby. McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include three daughters, Beverly (Buzzy) Hill of Oakland, Donna (Larry) Johnson of Hattiesburg and Lisa (Jimmy) Byford of Coffeeville; one son, Shot (Missy) Harbour of Coffeeville; seven grandchildren, Tommie Lynn Hill, Will Hill, Ashleigh Johnson, Brent Johnson, Hayden Harbour, Leann Robertson and Casey Gaines and seven great-grandchildren, Spencer Martin, Sydney Hill, Ty Hill, Waylon Harbour, Katarina Harbour, Anna Claire Gaines and Kinsley Robertson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gale D. Harbour; grandson, Cody Byford; sister, Mildred Waddell and a brother, W.B. Martin.

Memorials may be directed to the Harbour Cemetery Fund, 170 County Road 266, Coffeeville, MS 38922.

Nancy Jean Antwine Winburn Jones

GADSDEN – Nancy Jean Antwine Winburn Jones peacefully passed from her wonderful life on Monday, October 9, 2023. Nancy was born on July 25, 1931 in Gadsden, TN to the late Prentice Antwine and Gladys Manley McCurry. She was 92 years old.

Nancy was very loving and her pleasant personality was enjoyed by everyone she met. She was loved dearly by her family and will forever be remembered for her gentle guidance and ever lasting Christian advice.

Nancy was a loving mother and homemaker. She was a devout member of Camp Ground Baptist Church where she served as secretary. She enjoyed her involvement in a prayer group of friends. Nancy was also a member of the Garden Club. She worked for Crawford & Co for many years following the years at her family business.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, James Winburn. She later married L.D. Jones, and they enjoyed 20 years together before his passing in 2010.

Nancy is survived by her son Ricky (Ashley) Winburn; her grandchildren, Gary Winburn, Justin (Britney) Winburn, Ashley Winburn, James Winburn and Anthony Beaver along with stepsons Billy (Joy) Jones, Jerry Jones, Ricky Jones and Ernie Winburn.

Visitation was held at Camp Ground Baptist Church on Friday, October 13, from 1 to 2 p.m. with a memorial service following at 2 p.m. Bro. Billy Childs officiated.  Seven Oaks Funeral Home was in charge of the services.
